Hey everyone!
I have a huge concern I wanted other opinion of because I am not very sure what to do.
so here goes...
I have worked in a hospital per diem through an agency for 2 years, I finally transferred to a full time employee of the hospital. After about three months I was pulled into my manager & directors office with false accusations. They told me a charge nurse wrote an incident report saying I falsified patient records! This is 100% false.
they told me I had charted I took care of a patient before I actually did so that I was lying and could have not touched the patient all day.
however, I did care for the patient and had a witness with me when we provided ADL's. I told them I had a witness and that the information was false. They then asked me what time I did the care, I told them I don't remember and I guessed a time. They told me I charted I have care before that time.
the reason they even looked into it is because the patient was having dressing changes being done by the nurse so I waited until she was done before I went to provide care. I continued about my work waiting for her to be done. The family happened to come before I made my way back to that patient and went to the station to tell them their family member looks as if he has not been cleaned up for the day. They notified me and I was already aware of the situation so I went and spoke with the family and everything was fine. I then cared for the patient with a volunteer present.
I told my director and manager that is what happened and they fired me anyways. I am very nervous because I start nursing school in August and don't know if this will affect my school or future career.
This incident is currently being investigated by my union, but I don't see them doing much of anything.
Does anyone have any advice please.

Had there been other incidents leading up to that one? How is the rest of your work history?

When management asked you what time you took care of the patient, you stated that "you didn't remember and that you guessed a time." IMO, that is the biggest problem here and probably the only problem. You can't guess, big no no. I think most of us back chart but it's crucial you back chart to the correct time and never in a million years should you chart something you haven't done yet, even if you're extremely busy. I don't really know but my guess would be that this shouldn't affect you starting your program but you will have to answer that question on job apps in the future that ask about past terminations. My advice would be to recognize where you went wrong and why it's such a big deal. Learn from your mistake and move forward.
I have been a Cna for 6 years now and have never been in trouble if any kind. No write ups, no suspensions, never terminated.

And they continued asking me questions trying to get me to state a time. So I got nervous and I did say idk if I guess I'm guessing somewhere around this hour but that's not 100%.
No, I don't think it will be hard for you to get a job. I think you'll be just fine. It seems kind of crazy that they fired you when this was the first disciplinary action. I really wouldn't stress too much over it. Enjoy your summer before school starts. Your background as a cna will help you so much!
Okay thank you so much. I am just nervous when I do clinical at school if they send me to that hospital for clinical. I don't want the reputation I am a bad person in medical or anything.

Wow, that family must be coming at them hard about something. It looks like you're the one your work place targeted so they could cover their butts and say something was done.
That's what I think because my director stated multiple time that they had meeting directed towards the nurses about falisiying documentation. So I think they fired me under false pretenses to prove a point to the nurses. Unfortunately I was the learning lesson at my workplace.
and the funny thing is the family never wrote a complaint about anything. They took a family member stating something at the nurses station as a complaint which it wasn't, as a reason to prove a point.
