My current assignment has been iffy with travelers since Spring, only wanting to give 4-6 week contracts. My contract is up soon, and as of last week, my recruiter wasnt sure if I was going to get extended bc they were not getting back to him (typical of them). I contacted an old recruiter on Friday and expressed interest in a job that she sent me. My current recruiter does not have any jobs in that state, that is why I contacted her. She submitted me on Friday. She then called today and said the hospital wants to hire me as a traveler just based upon my profile, and they will call me this week so I can ask them questions. Well, wouldnt you know, current recruiter called today and offered an extension thru August. Current job pays more (1200 more net/month) and I have guaranteed hours. I feel bad, but I need to stay where I am. I just know it's going to rightfully upset the other recruiter.
What's the problem? You were just looking. Let them know that you were extended, but you would be interested in September (or not). The truth is always good business. Every agency knows the score here.
Don't feel bad about recruiters, they typically don't care about you. He/she will understand you need to extend and let them know once your extension is over you will contact them about future jobs.
