I feel like they should change the title of this site to "reasons why my job sucks"

Nurses Relations

Published

People on here need to realize that when you complain on here (and for some that all those individuals do) it really dissuades us new grads from continuing into the profession. First and most obvious question, Does anyone actually like being a Nurse? I mean granted I don't think anyone loves all aspects of their job, but does it seem like a nightmare every day? Secondly, name the best part of your area and your biggest pet peeve.

Sorry had to rant.

:snurse:

That's not my point specifically. I am just saying that it seems all everyone does on here is complain and say "I want out!" or something along those lines. I know people sometimes have to vent but it is beginning to give me and many new grads the impression that nobody likes their job. By the way, is your profile pic Darrel from Walking Dead?[/quote']

The authors of any discussion site thread are not composed of a general population. An extremely negative thread on a nursing website is not a sample of the general nursing population, rather, it is more likely composed of people who are more negative in general. So search for negativity on the internet, or anything for that matter, and you will find it!

Oh by the way, most people post here without regard to new grads because they are not the epicenter of our existence or jobs or topics .[/quote']

People visit AN to share common experiences, including venting, because unless you're a working nurse, or have worked in the profession, you have no concept of the realities of nursing. New nurses often label this as negative, and sometimes it is....but for good reason.

Chronic understaffing, mandatory overtime, and workplace politics are among the shared frustrations. On the other hand, nurses also discuss best practices, interesting cases, and the joys of nursing. For confidentiality reasons, we can't vent out in the open too much so AN provides a safe haven.

There are so many themes on this site, that is WHY i love it. This particular section is to talk about colleague relationships, its meant to be a place to rant. To discuss the inherent conflicts that arise in interpersonal relationships. Go to "Nursing Success Stories" to get that "feel good" sentiment.

I consider it a reality check. At least this way, if someone still chooses to be a nurse, they do so knowing it won't be all rosy and beautiful and amazing. It will be challenging and yes sometimes it will suck. I appreciate the honesty and realism. I also appreciate that AllNurses provides a place to vent about nursing issues. I look forward to doing just that when I finally start my first nursing job.

So those who post their issues/complaints/negativity about the job, keep on posting. If new grads are discouraged..well what can you do. They can choose to stay or leave. There is a lot more to this site than negative comments or complaints about nursing. There is a lot of great advice from nurses who have been there and done that. That is priceless.

ETA I did not realize this discussion was a year old! Oops.

Well, you digging out a quote from a thread a year out and needing to inform me and the rest of AN about your thoughts on my comments say a lot about you.

I bet you could find yourself a solo show on TLC or the latest breaking news programs?

Peace out.
