I failed my class (BUT I FEEL GREAT)

Published

Ok am I weird or what. ( NUR 108 Fundamentals of Nursing ) I started out in the class with a D on my test and then got 2 C and the last test I got a B, then, I took the final today and passed the final but failed the class by 4 points (which is one question). The odd thing is Im not upset with myself or the fact that I have to take the class over again. I mean I scored higher on the final then some people that pass the class. So i am still going to with joy because I know I can do well and it has shown. I just will get ready to take the class in August. So am I losing my mind or what, being happy even though I have to take the class over?

I think that you should be proud of yourself that you pulled up the grade. I am sorry you have to repeat the class. I think you have the right attitude. Some people would be so upset by not passing that they would want to quit school. But you are taking it in stride and ready to do what you need to do to get what you want. So good luck.

Thank you so much. That is exactly what I am feeling and I don't think some people seem to understand that. I know I will do very well the second time in August because its not like I failed the class horribly it was only by one question. So I am going to hold my head high and walk with pride.

hmm sorry I don't see what your happy about at all here, considering you failed a nursing fundamentals class which you should have had an A in to begin with ;)

Study harder less internet next time!

Hmmmmm what makes you think I was in the internet?

Ok so everyone who has ever passed Nursing Fundamentals passed with an A?or even passed the first time..... Nursing Fundamentals may be basic but it's far from easy. It's a whole new way of thinking so if your not used to it then it will throw you for a loop and if you start off badly then it might be harder for you to catch up at the end, once you do get in the flow of critical thinking. Kudos to you for standing tall and keeping your head up! You are in a good place, keep that mind set and you will do great! :lol2:

Wow, I totally disagree with you.

We lost some great people my first (and every) semester of nursing school. Most of them returned and did excellent and are great nurses. I've seen many fail the NCLEX and still become wonderful nurses. One failing grade does not mean the person is a failure and will not graduate or will not become a great nurse. It's a bump in the road. Not everyone does well in the foundations class.

OP- I'm glad you were able to bring your grade up. I've found I usually do very well or very poor on the first test. From then on I'm able to refocus and you realize what it is you should be focusing on, the teachers testing style, etc. The first semester of school is even harder. Even though A&P and those classes were hard, nursing is a totally different animal.

Keep the same wonderful attitude and I'm sure you'll excel the next time!

Ive had the same feeling, and i think its great your not on some "whoa is me" downturn. You improved throught the semester, so atleast you've probally learned a better studying techniqe to use next time. Look, everyone and some point will fail at something, its all in the way you handle it. You seemed to have learned from your mistake, and I'm sure you'll do fine the next time. Do not let anyone make you feel worse than you need to, only you pay your tuition, and only you know what it's like in your shoes. Good luck next time.;)

I'm sorry that you failed and have to repeat it, but I'm glad you did so well on the test and that you have a positive attitude about things! I'm sure you'll do better in August, and at least you'll know what to expect from the class and the rest of NS.

A word of advice: if you are missing any non-nursing class such as ethics, micro, that computer class, TAKE IT NOW! You won't have next summer off--you'll have psych nursing, and as someone who had to take psych nursing AND ethics last summer...let's just say that summer sucked big time, especially since that was a full semester of ethics crammed into 8 weeeks. So take any missing classes this summer while you have the chance.

I think you will do fine next time you take the class. I went into Nursing with a 4.0 GPA because of a previous degree. But, nothing could have prepared me for test taking when it came to nursing. I wished that someone would have warned me that you were to take it differently than the normal test. It would have saved me alot of headaches. I graduate this weekend and will not miss nursing school at all! But, I will tell you when taking any nursing test, use the Nursing Process first. ADPIE! Then use MASLOWS! Of course, airway is usually ALWAYS first, unless its a trick question. I think you will do fine re-taking the class, you want it bad enough and I think you will do great!

I failed fundamentals of nursing to ,so what am still in am gonna retake it and pass it.I think the mayor enemy in nursing school is stress.I was passing the class and then all the sudden i stressed out and i failed the class. The easiest exam is the final exam because most of the questions are knowledge questions.Better advice never give up even if you are failing a class continue study.I dont like to talk bad about teachers but they dont baby you no more but, if you think you gonna deal with people health and better commit no errors that why they dont baby you no more.Never be negative in nusing school because it is surprise box.If you fail one class keep on is like falling from s stair if you fail stand up and keep on do better and harder the second time in everything.Am a nursing student from miami dade college and i feel proud of myself just for being there anyone in same sitution just reply back.

Big LOL,Its understandable,I remeber miy neuro and one pharm exam nearly killed me but I survived and so will you!!! Good luckas it can happen to anyone, nursing school always keep you on the edge and you dont know if you'l sink or swim but the winning attitude will make you succeed at the end.

I understand how you feel. I was stressed also, but my main problem was second guessing myself. Now im just waiting to get the ok to register for the class again and take it over. I am confident that I will do much better this time around. Don't give up you can do it. Remember nursing school is what you make of it.

I always heard that fundamentals was suspose to be the easiest out of all the nursing classes ex med surg.Good luck we can only fail one nur class so thats even more pressure on the other 4 classes

yeah i heard fundamentals is suppose to be the easier course also, but its different when you come into not knowing you have to use critcal thinking, or bascially thinking like a nurse. Its a whole new ball game not like any other test so I wasn't prepared for that and once I caught on it was just a little to late. Once I take this course over again I can't fail another class or im out of the program, I would have to go to a different school. I think the class is what you make of it. Some say its easy some say med-surg is easy it all depends on the person.
