should I even try hard?

Guys, I don't post here much but I've been following the site for sometimes. I have an engineering background and still working full time. Cut the story short, I've been studying my butt off for ap1 and other classes (community college); I finally finished ap1 and got the grade that I wanted; specially for ap1, pretty tough class pheww. Howoever, the University that I'm going to in the fall doesn't count the grades, only the credits... so do I even try as hard w/ ap2 and microbio? All I need are C's; BUT here is the thing. I plan to apply for grad school one day; so would the admission look at the transcript from community college? Would they care if i got C's in those core classes? such as ap1, 2, microbio?

Hey fellaz,

I have a BA in psych and work as an HIV/AIDS case management (non-nursing) at a non-profit. I am currently at an ADN program entering my last year. I got very good grades on all my pre-reqs except ap2 in which I got a C+. Would that get me into any hardship considering the fact that I am not stopping at the ADN level?

Unique screen name, azn = me as well ;)

I can't really tell you for sure since I can't speak for everybody. I mean how's your other classes (micro, ap1)? If they're good, then I wouldn't worry too much, although it would be nice to have B's or abovve since the admission do look at your science grades when you apply for higher level of education (BSN, NP, PA, etc). But I wouldn't kill myself over it, just do good on the next coming science classes if you haven't taken them yet.

Sorry man, I re-read what you wrote and you said you have very good grades on all others... well, I think you're fine then, in my opinion.

Thanks for d reply! I would really hate it if I have to go through ap2 all over again. I could have done better but I would just have to blame it on my super old professor who insisted on drawing every anatomical part he's lecturing on instead of using a slide projector! His lectures were anticlimatic! Everytime he gets you going and interested he would start drawing the kidney and the nephron unit reeeeaaaaallllyyyyyyyy slllllooowwwwllllyyyyy that by the time he is done my mind is really somewhere else in the Bahamas! He has tremors in both hands and walks really slow too! God bless his soul! that man's memory is super sharp, he must have been doing it for years and years and years and years. He never have to look at notes while lecturing. He has all the info organized in his head. Besides, 30% of the lecture time were spent on him drawing the heart, or the lungs, or the nephron unit, etc. You get my drift. :)

Azn Persuazn!

Definately. I just got hired, and they didn't look at my grades, but it will help you understand everything that has to do with nursing.

Hi

Build a good foundation and get your fundamentals right. You gotta learn to walk before you can run :)

Will it give you hardship? Hard to say - I'm one of those "people" whose grades never reflect their true knowledge. I'm a horrible test taker - I do fabulous in class and clinicals, but my exam results suck.

No harm in getting your base solid though.

Thanks,

Matthew

Even though this university that you plan to attend in the fall is only looking at your credits, when you apply to grad school they will compute your GPA from all of your undergraduate coursework grades. One or two C's will not kill your GPA, especially since you said you're doing well in all your other classes. But my advice is 'yes', try hard and aim high.
