Anyone else here have dreams about the OR? I have them all the time. They're not usually bad dreams, and often they're pretty funny. Mostly, they involve running around like a chicken with it's head cut off, trying to do all the stuff that everyone wants me to do, all at the same time...:uhoh3:

Absolutely. Sometimes they are pretty normal like a regular day at work. Other times I dream we're doing knee arthroscopies in my home or carpal tunnel surgeries in the conference room at work :lol2:

Haha, yes i do. Seems to be when i had a very stressful or bad week though and like you said its usually with me running around like a chicken with head cut off. I've also had dreams of not being able to talk in the OR when i wanted to, afraid of being yelled at, me getting in trouble, doing surgery outside the hospital instead of inside the room, and a bunch of others i can't remember. The 1st 8 or 9 months was the worst, i often had nightmares about the OR. Now its mainly having dreams of not moving fast enough, its like everything i am doing is in slow motion...very frustrating.

Isn't that what a normal day in the OR feels like?

Yes, sometimes I wake up and am like, "Do I have to go to work?" I just worked all night!!! LOL

Dreamed of getting called in while I was on call ...

Then I woke up and realized that I was in bed ..OMG -- I miss the call. Checked my beeper and there were no messages, check my phone and there were no messages ... went back to bed and hoping that it was a dream and I actually didn't get called in.

Yup, i've had the same thing happen to me too! That is too funny. Just last night i had a dream i was late for work. In the dream I could see the charge nurse and my crew getting ****** off and wondering where i was, i was thinking "OMG i have to get to work" I woke up panicking and looked at the clock and it was 1000am. I freaked out thinking i had to be at work at 0645 but it was my day off today. LOL!!!

Yes! Just last night I had a dream that I was working with a surgeon that I don't often work with (who happens to be my OB/GYN). I was by myself and already nervous cause I never work with him and he often works so fast. So I was busy hooking everything up and getting him foot pedals and such and I noticed the tech passing him the knife but I hadn't done the time-out:uhoh3:. So I rushed over to the chart to find the consent and I couldn't find it. Meanwhile, he's getting huffy that he can't start cause I still haven't done the time-out. So I finally found the consent but I couldn't read his writing for what the procedure was so I had to ask him. He told me and then fussed at me for not being able to read it. So after that was all over, he starts asking for all kinda crazy stuff and I kept having to run to the pharmacy and everywhere else for stuff. OMG it was horrible. I was so happy that my phone woke me up from that craziness!!

Hey Tiffany-- don't you just LOVE cases like that? :yeah:

As an aside, you mentioned not being able to read the consent in your dream-- in fact you can't read anything correctly in a dream! If you do and try to read it again, it will change. People who are into lucid dreaming use this as a test to see if it's really a dream or waking reality.

Oh yes I liiiive for those cases, lol:bugeyes:. That's interesting about dreams though. I've never tried to read anything before in my dreams that I can remember and I never really remembered that much about my dreams until I got prego, lol. Now I can tell you all kinds of details. Its VERY wierd!

Specializes in O.R., pediatrics, gynecology, surgical.

dreams are usually weird... but having dreams that is still to happen tomorrow..

i mean, i came from late duty and my off duty is today so for like 30 hours i will not go inside O.R. in my dreams i can recognize all surgeons, staff, and anesthesiologist... i can recall what the procedure is, but the weird thing is they are doing the procedure in the reception area, not in the O.R. The day i went back to work, the exact procedure, the surgeon, and the anesthetist were the onces i saw in my dreams are really happening, but inside the O.R. isn't it real???

maybe just exciting to go back to work...
