I did not make it into the LVN program at Hacienda La Puente CAD School again. I was so disappointed not only in myself but the entire process itself.
During the Pre-LVN class the school administration added two additional tests (one was medical terminology and the other was questions on a nursing essay). There was no indication regarding the medical terminology. Also, they reduced the time allotted to complete all of the tests from 25 mins to 15 mins and raised the entry score from 83 to 93.
So after a good cry, I am at a crossroads. Should I use the WIA funds to get my CNA/HHA training and work as a CNA and go back for my RN or should I return to the corporate world and still pursue my RN?
Any insight would be appreciated.

I think that learning medical terminology is important. It helps with so much. Especially in Anatomy and Physiology and Micro. I took it 15 years ago when it was a requirement for programs and I have since learned it is no longer a requirement. I can't tell you how many times I wasn't sure of something in Anatomy and could make an educated guess based on my med term knowledge. RN school is harder to get in than LVN school so if your not making it in the LVN program you probably won't make it in the RN. I would learn some med term and figure out what else is holding you back and work on that. Work on those items the next few months and apply again.
Knowing medical terminology is very important. The requirements to get in RN School is a lot different than those of LVN CAD (Community Adult District) school. It is not right that they (the LVN school) warned us of what to study (handbook, dress code and A & P modules) but not medical terminology. I am sorry but I do not agree with you but I respect your opinion.

I am so sorry that this is happening to you. It makes me realize how easy it is to get into an LPN program here in Florida. Have you look into other lpn programs? good luck and I hope everything works out for you.
Na-Na, I have looked into other LVN programs in the area but they are by private schools. It is easy for me to get to one of these schools just by taking a couple of tests. The problem with these privately ran schools is they are so darn expensive (30 K and up) and all loans (make too much money for pell grant). I don't have a problem investing in my future, but taking that amount in loans just for a certificate is too much.

Hi. Why don't you try to get into the psych tech program at hacienda la puente? I also tried for the lvn program there but didn't make it, so I went for the psych tech program and made it. However, I quit in 3 days lol. Cus I didn't realize how hard it was and got scared n quit. But I'm thinking about going back in feb. But I'm afraid of failing n quiting again so still debating. I think psych tech is equivalent to lvn also. They are licensed by the same board. And I think they make just as much money as an lvn. Also I was told by the school that after I finish the psych tech program in a year, I can continue to go to the same school with out needing to test again for their lvn program for just another 6 months. So you should definitely look into that!! Good luck with everything! And wish me luck also lol!! I still want to go back but super scared and unsure!! :)

Good day, Puddin2day:
I'm sorry you went through this experience. During the down time, I would recommend picking up some books on medical terminology. Last semester I completed A&P 1, and even though I only know a few suffixes and prefixes with some roots, I was able to decipher enough of words on tests that helped me do well in the course.
Hopefully the thought I'm about to share isn't silly, but maybe the RN route would be easier to get in from a start perspective even though it might be a longer journey... not sure. Either way, re-evaluate, and if this is your passion, study up, and try again.
Thank you.

Since you now know that medical terminology is tested, it would be wise to get some books on the subject and study before trying again. This is what I would advise before trying another course of action. Best wishes.
Here's what you need to know about the psych tech program. In the state of CA, a psych tech cannot use their training to get into an RN program. Only in two states (one of which is Montana and another state- forgot which one. I am going to go for my RN, whether or not I go for the CNA/HHA or go back to working in corporate.
Why are you scared?
I just purchased a medical terminology book. I need to start studying. Thank you for your reply.
Hi again!! Oh I didn't know that about the Rn. Never had the thought is even make it that far lol. I'm scared because I am not smart enough and have bad memory. So I'm afraid of failing or dropping out again. I think it's so fast paced because it's a 1 year program, and I am a slow learner. But I really want to go back n get myself a good career to take care of my family! So confused on what to do! Class starts next month already and I don't know to try again or not!!
Try again. Go to your local health food store, they vitamins that can help with memory and enhance brain function.
