I charged on my unit for the first time yesterday and today.

Things went a lot better than I expected. There were a few problems that came up, but I feel I handled them well. The techs gave me a lot more respect than they usually do. That was really refreshing.

Besides regular staff and all the pts, we had three new LPNs orienting to the unit. One is a new grad and this is her first job. Usually, new grads are excited, eager, nervous and want to do well.

This one sits around and chit chats a lot, not paying attention to what is going on w/ the pts, and what she is supposed to be doing. She required frequent prodding, which I hope will change.

I had to precept the new hires, and take pts, in addition to charging.

Today, I was the only RN in the building, and the only nurse who was not an orientee. Eeeeek!

I had been fearful of being charge, but I think I'm ok about it now.

The experience has given me more confidence!

Congrats!

Be careful...better nip that slacking in the bud. If she can't be bothered this soon out of the gate, heaven only knows what she'll be like later.

WAY TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

sounds as if you were MORE than up to the challenge. I am happy for you!:D

Congratulations! Be careful if they didn't show you much respect before then you're not getting more today. The only reason you're getting more pseudo respect today is because you're making out the assignments now. Take care of that problem LPN very quickly - like tomorrow. If you have three newbie's don't play to much reach out and snatch that respect right off the bat you'll find it easier in the long run. To keep and hold the respect you'll have to earn it. You got it going on. Take care.

Awesome! Considering those conditions you're describing I'm glad things went well. Woot!

Congrats on charging for the first time!! I hope that at the end of the day you felt a rewarding sense of accomplishment!!

It won't be probably too long before I do charge for the first time!

Thank you.

You know what- I wasn't even told in advance I would be charge. I just arrived for my shift, and there it was. I found out by looking at the assignment sheet.

I do plan on discussing things w/ the new LPN further. However, I've learned that nothing much can be done with someone who doesn't have a work ethic. I have to give her a chance, she is brand new. But if things don't change quickly, I will discuss it with my NM.
