I am from California, here is my current situation and getting into a program in NY.

U.S.A. New York

Hello I am going to start off by saying I did not know what I really wanted to do until I got the chance to see it for myself. I thought I did but I did not. I got my B.A. in Psychology from UC Merced last July. I was born and raised in the bay area and after quitting my tech job in January I got my EMT-B at a local community college here. I still have to pass the national registry but that should be cake compared to getting the certificate from the school. This brings me to my next question, during clinical rotations I really enjoyed working at the hospital ER and I eventually ran around asking all the nurses what they did and what I had to do to get there. The ambulance was not really for me (although for experience and if it helped me get into a nursing program I would do it).

I've been looking at some programs in California and a lot of them have long waiting lists or don't take credits taken longer than 5 years ago. I found NYU Accelerated BSN program which accepts credits taken 10 years so that is a plus. I am quite interested in this program NYU has to offer and that leads me to another problem. I got a 2.25 GPA when I graduated from UC Merced I was messing around and literally had no idea what I really wanted to do. Now I do and now my past GPA is coming back to haunt me. What do you recommend I do?

  • Human Anatomy & Physiology I and II, or one semester of Human Anatomy and one semester of Human Physiology
  • Chemistry with Lab (at least 4 credits)
  • Microbiology
  • Nutrition
  • Statistics
  • Developmental Psychology/Life Span Psychology. The course must cover psychological development of a human across the life span.

The only classes I haven't taken I believe are human anatomy and physio, microbio, MAYBE chem and nutrition. Should I retake all the classes I can ace them all and reapply while working as an EMT at the same time? Or just take the classes I haven't taken yet and do very well. What are my real chances and options with going to NYU Accelerated BSN program? Also What other programs might you recommend? I'm not too concerned about the money issue of it I can afford a private school, but that's another story. I'm looking at schools in this area because California ones are way too impacted and too long of waiting lists and it seems like it isn't as bad in New York plus I've always liked the area (I should visit to see how it is sometime) but seems like a great place to spend a while studying and I might as well grow and see a new place while doing it. Let me know what you think and thank you for the help!

Alright talked to a counselor today, figured it all out. All I want to ask is how difficult is the accelerated BSN program for NYU to get into?

I think the NYU thread will help: https://allnurses.com/new-york-state/nyu-absn-fall-810051.html

But from what I've heard, the school accepts a lot of applicants and isn't very difficult to get into.
