I am growing tired of racism in dallas fort worth area.

What's happening in Dallas? How have you been affected?

Is there someone you can talk to about problems on the job?

Please don't quit we need you!:) Discrimination is wrong, if you are being disc. against is there some sort of course of action you can take??:(

Becuse you dont give details it's hard to give you good advise. Still haveing been the target of raceisum threw out my own life I can tell you that simply quiting is not the answer. No matter where you go or what you do, you will at times have to deal with this. I have heard that Texas can be a really hard place in reguards to racisium so I'm sure you are getting allot of flack.

However if you allow people to make you leave you have let them win. If you do leave nursing you'll still have to deal with racisum you just won't be a nurse.

I agree with a previous poster that you should perhaps discuss with a higher up before you give up. Having said that. . .

I think perhaps it might be a bit of a broad brush to paint the entire DFW area; it's a large area. I've worked with, had contact with, gone to classes/conferences with many nurses from across the DFW metroplex. There are different cultural climates in different areas of this market. I've worked some floors where white American-born nurses (or any employee) were in the extreme minority. Not to say that precludes racism but it did promote diversity.

I hope you don't mean you are thinking of quitting nursing, that would be a shame. One of the great things about the DFW area is that there are so many choices of places to work, especially if you don't mind a little drive (I commute 23 miles to work, not far for some but I never imagined driving that far to work).

On the other hand, one of the great things about nursing is that if you don't like where you are at, you can take your skills with you pretty much anywhere. I did that. . . Got super-sick of the attitude at my first employer, the management challenged me that there wasn't anything better out there (so why was I complaining?) so I left them right before the holidays (about 3 weeks later) and was a traveler until I settled half way across the country. I would hate to lose a nurse from this area however I always encourage my co-workers to go where they can pursue their happiness.
