Hey who's going to the New Grad Open House at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena? I'm going! lol. Just wanted to bring it up. I'm sure I'll see some of you there!

I don't know how it is at Huntington Hospital career days, cause I'm in So. Cal. But I have found that few Hospitals I attended, that posted "open houses, interviews and employment on the spot", I have found its part of their advertising to get you there.

Hospitals that advertise open houses at their hospital are recruiting for their hospital only. HR is usually at the entrance to the room where it is held, to answer questions and where you sign up for free prizes.

Then seperate booths for each department with usually a manager of said department or the director herself. Usually there are so many nurses, and the noise level is so high, I have found that you cannot possibly do an interview.

I have found in my experience that usually you have just enough time to introduce yourself to the manager, tell her why you want to work in her department and your experience, and drop her your resume, get her business card and hope you get called, or you call her after the fair.

One career fair I went to, advertised interviewing on the spot. It required signing up ahead of time. I got there, signed in (you couldn't get in if your name was not on the list) I was given a hospital application and other paperwork to fill out. When I finished the application, they asked me which time I wanted on the one day only (for 2 weeks later)that they were holding for interviews. Meaning I drove a ways to the hospital, only to fill out an application. Was told nothing about the position I was applying for. Only to return 2 weeks later to wait in a long line for interviews. And still had to wait several weeks+ after the interview to get an answer. I had to call them, they didn't call me.

BTW, There was a mention of HOAG hospital holding an open house in April. I've seen nothing on their website or searching the internet. Could you tell me where it is advertised?

Thanks...and good luck at your job fair!

i got an email from the Recruiter. She said there is no need to RSVP is on April 13 from 530-730pm in the Conference Center at Hoag. If you would like to verify I can send you the recruiters email.

I talked to someone from Huntington Hospital today. When I asked them how this open house was going to go, he said that the first part will be group interviews and that the second part was gonna be like a job fair. He also said there were 500 applicants for 20 positions.

do any of you guys know if they will post positions for the new grad program on their website or do we have to attend the open house in order to apply? i rsvped to attend but i have clinic that day and we can only miss 24 hours.

I think their requirements are that you already graduated and have RN license at the time of open house.

oh really? i thought you could still apply and attend if your anticipated grad date is in june. i'll have to look into that. thank you.

what does '500 applicants for 20 positions' mean? they will only take the first 500 applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis? they've already received 500 resumes (prior to open house)? they will only hand out 500 standard applications which needs to be filled out and submitted with the resume? insights anyone?

i think what the person was trying to say is that there are a ton of applicants for roughly 20 available positions. i don't think 500 new grads will show up that day but they probably have over 500 applicants that applied. again, i seriously doubt that all that applied will show up that day. there will definitely be a lot of us there, my only concern is how in the world will they be able to sort through all the applicants that night and interview the people they want. on the spot employment offers sounds too good to be true as well. i guess we will have to be patient and find out that day how this will really work.

Thanks 50caliber for your response.

Any others from the Bay Area who might be interested in carpooling down to Pasadena? If so, feel free to PM me and I will give send you my email address or you can leave your email address.

Thanks

I spoke to someone two days ago who works in the ER at HH and she said that they were cancelling the New Grad Orientation.

I would check into it.

Just wondering.. When is the date of open house at huntington hospital?

Open house is on April 16. You have to RSVP. Bring cover letter and resume along with two letters of rec.:wink2:

Did Huntington hospital take down their new grad open house information? I did RSVP and wanted to review some info regarding the open house but can't any information on it on their website. Anybody know what happened?
