Humber General Arts and Science

Published

Hi everyone!

I just got accepted into Humber's General arts and science program! I'm excited/nervous about it. Does anyone know what the program is like? They told me the minimum mark they accepted this year to get into the RN program was 80%, I'm just wondering if that is really tough to get? 2 years ago I finished school for Registered Massage Therapy and my average was 86% and I already have a good base of the health sciences, but I didn't take any math or english which in the past have found rather tough.

Anyways, I was just interested in hearing any opinions on the program!

Thanks :)

Hey! The GAS program is a pretty good program; there are a lot of great teachers. It can sometimes get a little busy, but generally, it isn't a very hard program. Since you said you applied to the BN program as well, I assume that you've studied science before, which will help you a lot. Everyone does have the same schedule. They accept 150 students, and it's divided into 5 different stream of classes.

Good luck with both of the programs! If you get into the BN program, let me know!

Thanks! I am extremely nervous.. I am still in HS and my average is around 85% but nursing has become so competitive I am not even confident about getting in with that average. So I applied for the GAS as a back up. Also, how was the math component of the admissions test? Is it all multiple choice? I hope you get into the BN program you definitely worked hard for it, and will gladly let you know if I get into the BN program!

The math component is multiple choice and super easy! Know your metric conversions. I think I got perfect on all the other questions, except those! lol. Did you apply to the practical nursing as well? 85% is kind of on the line on whether you would get in or not wit humber, but I think Seneca would accept you because they get less applications based on their location.

Good luck!

No I did not apply for practical nursing at Seneca, however I did apply to their Collaborative nursing program with York. I really want to get into Humber.. I would rather take the GAS if I do not get in than take the practical nursing which is two years. Thats good to hear the math component is easy :) .. and the english part is an essay right?

Humber is definitely a good school, and they have a reputation as having the best nurses. The reason I asked about the practical nursing is because if you do the two years, Humber has a 3 year bridging course for practical nurses to get their degree as an RN, so the end result would be 5 years in school both ways if you don't get right into the BN now. The benefit would be after 2 years you can work part time as a practical nurse and make $25/h for 3 years after, rather than making student wage for the full 5 years. (Just an idea!)

The english is just and essay and not any hard subjects :)

Hey BosRMT, I just wanted to let you know I got accepted into the GAS program for next year! :yeah: I am so excited to attend Humber next year and begin the process of becoming a RN. How is your classes going so far for second semester ? Also were the acceptance letters sent out yet to students in the GAS program?

Hey smartway! Congrats on getting accepted that's awesome :) Classes 2nd semester are going pretty good. I found 1st semester more difficult with just getting back into the swing of school and prioritizing my time, and now I feel more in a routine. However, the Biology and A&P (2nd semester) are more intense than Chemistry (1st semester). The best advise I could give is to stay motivated and find other classmates who are committed to doing well. There are A LOT of people in the GAS program who don't take it as seriously as they should.

They actually make us wait until our final grade to give us acceptances because they used to give them out based on 1st semester, but then people would start slacking. So, I find out May 2nd!

Hello BosRMT, did you get accepted into the RN program yet ?:)

Yes! I just found to this morning I got accepted! wooooo!

Oh wow congrats!! All that hard work paid off :) I can't wait to start the GAS program in September so I can get into the BN Program!! If you don't mind me asking, how was the last semester and what was your average they accepted you into the BN program with?

Thanks! I'm really excited to start in September. The last semester was pretty good. I found it easier than the 1st just because I was already organized and in a routine. However, I had already studied Anatomy & Physiology, so it helped out. In first semester, you will just have Chemistry, but second is A&P and Biology, so it can be a bit more difficult. My second semester average was 93%. From what I heard, they did accept one girl who had a mark below what they said they would accept though. I think you'll really enjoy it! Just work hard and you'll make it.

Oh thank you!! Good luck to you next year! :) I am starting to make budget for the school year and was wondering if the books for the GAS program are expensive.
