Specialties Case Management

Published

So i had a first interview for this position and did some research on here. Anyone currently working for humana? How is it going? What is the case load like? I have never worked from home so i'm not sure how i will feel about 8 hours in front of a computer/on the phone. Any advice, comments etc is greatly appreciated!!!

I'm going to be working from North Carolina. How would you say the stress level is? I'm coming from a high stress neuro floor and want to get away from it! Do you like it ok? Is it boring or something?

Specializes in Managed Care, Onc/Neph, Home Health.

No its not boring. FOR ME, I just don't like being behind. Being home, you don't have somebody you can "look over and say hey whats this or that". Everything is communicated via IM. You don't know faces. There are medicare guidelines you must stay within. I do UR for 7 SNF and 6 acute facilities You have to touch the acute with clinical review evey 3rd day, put it in the computer apply M and R guidelines. The same with SNF's. My home office is 8 hrs away so far I have flown down there twice for training, that was the beginning when I was hired. I may fly back for a Christmas party with the rest of the staff. It just not what I thought it was going to be. lots of changes from day to day. supposd to be a salaried position, don't get comp time for working over. I work wayyyyyy more than 8 hrs to catch up. Training is 4 wks at corporate. Humana invest a lot of money in training you. Flying you up, hotels, meals. I just thought it would be peaceful a home. I would rather be in the office. They supply you with everything you need at home. laptop, monitor, ph line, I am onsite too, so a Black berry, fax copier. lotsssssssss of conference calls/meetings on top. Rounds every Thursday and Friday. Now your region may be totally different. Hope this gives you insite. Great company, cares for its members. I am a very focused, organized person. Been on since May, and every time I think I got it...NO I DON'T.......lots of documentation

Hope this helps

RN in FL- great response. I have been looking for what a "day in the life" would be as an insurance cm. I am a cm at a hospital and have been wondering if the grass is greener working from home. Thanks for the details. Do you get any free time during the day for anything but work?

No, in fact, I forget to take the 30min lunch. Time flies. Can you imagine all those facilities requesting SNF placements. Noneeeeeee of the hosp CM get it. MCDR guidline, you need a PT OT eval for SNF All day on the ph, saying this. Trying to put discharges in the system within the 2 day turn around time. Its sooooo much. Drives me nuts that I can't catch up...

Thanks for the response....whew! I will not be doing utilization review but will be working as a case manager. I'll let you all know how it goes! It will be straight Wah with virtual training. I'm told the stress level is much different then bedside care so I hope it is for me!

Thank you so much for your input!
