What state are you living in and planning on working in when he joins you? I think CA is really only one that is strict on a SSN required to submit an application others will accept application just not issue a license until in the US and provides the state with a SSN.

Also he is not applying for NCLEX but to be a licensed nurse in the US of which NCLEX is part of that process

hi Silverdragon,

thanks for he reply..I'm getting confused now.

What i want him to do is to take the NCLEX RN exam in the Philippines but our main problem is we don't know where to submit the application so he can sit for an exam. I'm from Florida. I just want him to take the NCLEX and not the TOEFL/CGFNS/English test etc. Any suggestion what state?

English exam may be required even if already in the US on a immigrant visa this may also be the case when endorsing a licence, if the state requires it then there is no way round it exception may be if course evaluation proves that all training was done in English using English text books however i believe there are a few states that will still require English exam if English is not first language. CGFNS may also be required as currently most states require it but this is usually just CES which is a course evaluation. Only a small handful of states require CGFNS exam.

He can not take NCLEX without meeting state requirements and getting eligibility to sit it

So can you tell me how can he get the eligibility? For example here in Florida just download the application and submit it without the SSN then wait for theyr reply on what other exams do they require?

Check the Florida BON website and follow requirements for trained outside the USA, CES or some other approved company offering course evaluate is required before sending application to the BON if I remember rightly

Hi Kewlnurse2b,

Will you eventually sponsor your hubby to be an Immigrant here in the USA? If so, then he can wait until he get his SSN to apply to take the NCLEX-RN exam?

I read from a post here that New Mexico BON may not require SSN? You can check their site?

Good Luck..:)

EDSH_RN,

Hi yea but I don't know still how long would that be..

hi, is your husband waiting for a petition from you? he can wait for his SSN. my friends in the phils took their nclex without SSN and licensed in CA. but some of them still in the phils cant get an employer in the US to sponsor them.

but if your in florida i think you can make use reciprocity of license if your husband got it in phil (CA). check florida bon.

i'm from phils too, how i wish i took my nclex there before coming here. the advantage and convenience to do paper works from my schools is much easier and less expensive.

Please remember reciprocity is the NCLEX results you still have to meet state requirements and currently CA require a SSN with application otherwise they will not accept it. If you have a license issued in another state you follow requirements for endorsement otherwise you follow license by exam and arrange for NCLEX results to be forwarded to new state

thanks silverdragon ofr your reply. much appreciated!

attached herewith the link for the website https://www.ncsbn.org/index.htm for nclex requirements, for applicants/candidates.

state that do not require ssn

currently, new york and new hampshire do not require social security number or tax id as requirement for licensure. nor do they require cgfns examination as required by majority of the states. foreign nurses should present their credentials to cgfns for certification/evaluation and, upon certification, become eligible for nclex

licensure by examination

please note majority of the states require foreign nurses to pass cgfns before taking the nclex-rn. the following are the states with such requirement:

alabama, alaska, arizona, colorado, connecticut, district of columbia, florida, georgia, hawaii, idaho, indiana, iowa, kansas, kentucky, louisiana, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, montana, nebraska, new hampshire, new jersey, north carolina, north dakota, oklahoma, pennsylvania, rhode island, south carolina, south dakota, texas, vermont, virginia, washington, west virginia, and wyoming.
