09-10 hrsa nursing scholarship

Nurses General Nursing

Hello all,

I'm starting this thread for the new applicants for the hrsa nursing scholarship 09-10. Tor prettylady, I think its a random selection. Its the luck of the draw.

because it states that they will take out federal taxes on their website. i got the following quote from the hrsa website.

[color=#006699]taxation of the nursing scholarship

all nsp payments made to scholars, or on their behalf to nursing schools, are taxable (26 usc 117©). although payments of tuition and fees are made directly to the nursing school, the student is liable for taxes owed on these amounts. the nsp withholds federal income taxes from the stipend payments and orc based on the entire amount of the nsp award (tuition, fees, orc and stipends) and information provided on the w-4 by the scholar. students who want additional funds deducted from the stipend amount should indicate the additional amount to be deducted on the appropriate line on the w-4 form and please include the hard copy of the w-4 form with the supporting documentation. we advise students to consult their local tax authority regarding state or local taxes for which they may be liable, as state and local income taxes will not be withheld. it is the responsibility of the scholarship recipient to arrange for the payment of any additional federal, state, and local taxes that may be owed. each year, students will receive a 1099 tax form for amounts paid for tuition and fees and a w-2 tax form for amounts paid for stipend and orc.

I got mine too!!! :)

You know what. I think that they gave me my other expenses money that $1800 somthing amount and minus the taxes it came up to $1671.91. Why I didn't get the stipend money dn't know

Has anyone's school received any tuition and fees payment yet? I've been waiting but my school hasn't gotten anything yet, plus the semester is almost over.

Did you ask your school to bill hrsa?

My school billed HRSA a few weeks ago.

I know I should know this, but...anyone know how they continue tuition, payments, etc for each additional year we were approved for?

Does anyone here who previously received this award know around when we will receive the W2 and 1099 from HRSA?

Is anyone else in the same boat as me? I go to a very expensive school, and have obviously taken out federal loans to cover tuition. I have been told that payment from HRSA has apparently been sent to the school (that was in the first week of December), yet I have checked my student account, and the money has still not been applied. In the meantime, my private loans continue to be applied to my tuition (which apparently HRSA does not cover). I cannot get any straight forward answers from my analyst nor my financial aid representative. If this continues, HRSA will have to pay very little of my tuition. I have just received another payment from my lender, should I send it back before the opportunity to do so expires? I am incredibly frustrated. The reason I applied for this was to have my tuition covered, and its being covered all right, by myself. I get no answers from my analyst, in fact, every time I call her she is annoyed. Does anyone have any advice, suggestions, recommendation of people more willing to answer my questions from HRSA??? I'm really upset.

Misslolalady,

I suggest you quickly return your loans for next semester, because you won't be able to do so after about 30 days of your federal loan posting to your account, depending on your school's policy. However, I believe HRSA will take forever to pay your tuition, I'm still waiting for mine to be paid for Fall too.The HRSA payment should cover your loans, just not any interest. From the beginning, your school was supposed to send an invoice that subtracts your grants, not your loans and grants, did they do this?

How do you know your school received a payment from HRSA?

I was also told that my school has been paid, yet has not. My program analyst continues to beat around the bush

(when I can get in contact with him). My school just sent my loans from fall back this semester (last week), and did the same for the spring. You should see if your school is still able to do this. It is a bit of a hassle.

As far as the W2 form, I was told they would be sent out by Feb 1st. If not I would get your username and passcode to their site (i don't remember the name sorry), but it shows your W2 and tuition payment info. I would contact your program analyst to get your log in info. Hope that helps

I did send a fax to Fin Aid telling them to send back my loans that just came through. Apparently my school billed HRSA according to my analyst, who I was able to get in contact with today, but every time I call, I get blown off. Also- my school must have billed the incorrect amount, because the amount I am getting is for $3,330, which is barely the cost of 1 class, I took 3 in Fall.

I have been trying to get in touch with Fin Aid, and haven't had much luck. I guess I will have to keep trying, and have them send the correct amount that is to be billed to the school to cover my tuition.

Thank you for the suggestion.
