Does anyone know when the 2014 application will be posted (and when it's due)?

People who have been accepted to this scholarship, do you have any tips? What does the application entail?

THANKS!

I applied for this scholarship as well, and I am really hoping that I get it as it would help out a lot! I attend the University of Miami and it is not cheap whatsoever.

I wish there were more scholarships like this that were available. They know health professions cost more, but they don't really do more to help us.

I agree. Probably off topic again, but from personal experience, it's ridiculous how much of a struggle it's been to afford school when the whole reason I went to school in the first place is to help other people in need access healthcare. I got accepted to a few Ivy League nursing schools and got some scholarships and grants, but it wasn't nearly enough to cover the cost of attendance...meanwhile, I'm reading about business majors at the same schools who got full-ride scholarships...I guess it's a matter of where the alumni donate, but it's horribly unequal. Once I finish nursing school and I've got a little time on my hands, I plan to write some letters and editorials to make people aware of the lack of funding for healthcare professions. If people want quality healthcare, then our society needs to place more value on education for our healthcare providers!

I agree 100%! I feel like there are not nearly enough alumni reaching back to establish grants or scholarships etc. at the undergraduate level. Looking back on everything, I wish that I would have just went to state school to get my BSN for basically free. I'm just hoping that going to UM is worth it in the end and will give me whatever advantage I need to pass the NCLEX/find a job/get accepted into a graduate program.

CrystalUMiami, I'm sure it will be, for the benefits and job security that nursing entails as well as the joy of getting to do what you love every day. But, it would definitely help us to focus on our main task (learning how to be caring, well-educated nurses) if we didn't have to worry so much about debt!

The anticipation of waiting is agonizing! Hopefully we will hear back soon.

Hello! I just wanted to post an update that my status on the online portal changed from "Under Review" to "Finalist for Award" on yesterday. I received an update email also on yesterday evening prompting me to check the online portal in a timely manner and upload the requested information by the posted deadline. My credit was checked on 6/23 by the Dept. of Health, so I've been anxiously awaiting an update since then. I'm feeling super blessed to have been chosen as a finalist (although it's no guarantee of the award) and just wanted to post this to encourage all who are still waiting to hear back. They are working on selecting finalists, so keep the faith! It's still very early in the process. Best of luck to everyone!!!

Congrats Nurse-Midwife9

Did you apply for both NHSC and Nurse Corp? I talked to someone else who had credit checked on the same date as you and received an email yesterday.. Hers was for NHSC.

Thanks, everyone! And I only applied for NHSC Scholarship Program due to my specialty and the priority funding for each one.

Thanks for the clarification :)

SO I guess none have heard back on the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program yet? It kind of makes me feel good to hear that. I'm really hoping to get it because I'm gonna be in so much debt :(
