Hello,
Looking to transition out of 12 hour night shifts in ICU. I run business with my wife and business has grown (not to point of totally being out of nursing yet). Someone recommended looking into inpatient rehab for 8 hour shifts. So basically I am wondering if I could find per diem 8 hour shifts from 7p to 3a once week is possible?
thanks in advance

Length of shifts vary by area of country. Calling rehab units in facilities interested in working in your area is best bet,.

As previous person said, its best to research rehab facilities in your area and see what shifts they are looking to staff. My facility is currently 8 hour shifts. We used to be 12 but the CNO thought 12's were too stressful (which she is right, they can be.) All depends.

It has been my experience that most rehab facilities do run on 8 hour shifts. AM is 6-2:30, PM is 2-10:30, and NOC is 10:00-6:30. I am sure that some facilities have differing shifts, so it will be necessary for you to check with your local ones before making this decision.

I work at a specialty rehab hospital that schedules using 12-hour shifts. However, virtually all of the SNF rehab facilities in my geographic area staff with 8-hr shifts.

I work inpatient rehab and we staff 12 hour shifts only. They only offer 8 hour shifts when ppl pick up extra hours and they dont want to do the entire 12 hours.
