HPSP VA Nursing Scholarship 2019

Hi everyone! I was recently told I was selected for the HPSP Nursing Scholarship for nursing students. Apart of this scholarship I will have 100% of my tuition paid and cost of living paid. In exchange for this I will have to work for the VA for a minimum 2 years (with the possibility of relocation). My question is has anyone who received this award have to relocate or were you able to stay in the area?

With the scholarship basically all of the tuition is covered and your school has to send the bill to the VA and every month you receive the stipend. Because of the stipend I don’t work and I focus 100% on school. As far as the VA commitment goes, they send you a list of places you can go and you pick your top 5 places. They are willing to put you where you want to go but they are still working through the motions of this and the facilities. But I thank God I was able to receive this scholarship.

Thank you for your quick response!! What happened after you were selected? Did you have to do a rotation with the VA while in the nursing program? How much longer do you have before you graduate?

I was also wondering, is the location for the 12 month residency the same location for the 2.5 commitment? How soon did you hear back from them, letting you know that you were selected? Thank you!

I applied for the nursing hpsp BSN student scholarship for 2020-2021 year and I was told “hopefully” early this week notification will go out!

Do you have an interview? Is it with Baylor?

I missed that you applied for BSN that shouldn’t require an interview I did my MSN through VA wasn’t any issues

Best wishes! Ironically, yesterday I received an e-mail updating applicants that the board should meet next week and have up to a month to submit their selections for my desired scholarship (PMHNP). So, probably July for mine. I don’t have an interview requirement either (that I’m aware).
