Hi everyone,
I am going to graduate from an ACEN accredited school in about two weeks. I am planning on following up with some online applications I recently submitted to a local hospital. I plan on dropping off my resume to the nurse manager on the units I am particularly interested in.
My question is this: I was planning on wearing dress pants/dress shirt/tie. Some people I have talked to said that this was excessive for simply dropping off a resume.
What to do you all think?

I say wear it! I just went to a meet and greet type of thing at a local hospital and was able to pass out my resume. I seriously could not believe how people were dressed. I went out and bought a suit jacket to go with my dress pants/skirt and a nice blouse for interviews and contact with personnel. At the hospital people were wearing ripped up jeans and t-shirts, shorts, you name it. I guess whatever floats your boat, but if I were taking resumes I would be totally turned off by someone who couldn't even make an effort to dress nicely. And it's not about going out and buying some expensive suit, nice clothing can be borrowed or even purchased inexpensively at a place like Goodwill. I say dress nice, you never know if you may get an on-the-spot interview! Good luck!

I've had the experience in the past of stopping by just to drop off an application, and being invited to interview on the spot. My advice would be to dress as you would for an interview any time you are stopping by a potential employer for any reason.
Thank you all for your input! I'll let you know how it goes :)

Who are "some" people? and why are they concerned with what you are wearing? You are intelligent. Wear what you feel is appropriate. If you are wrong you will find out quickly. My philosophy is better to be over dressed than under. There are no "gimmie" jobs for new grads.
