How's eastern Georgia? Opinions?

U.S.A. Georgia

I'm looking to get some info on the best hospitals in the eastern areas of Georgia. I'm currently in New England so I realize a pay reduction is expected but the cost of living seems much lower. Any areas better for a family with children looking for land and good school systems?

How about hospital info. None of the hospitals seem to post pay rate information online. Any advice from other peeps out there? I'm looking for the nitty gritty details. Which hospitals offer the best for nurses in regards to pay and benefits? I want to make a good decision based on word of mouth from fellow nurses? I'm currently a BSN with 3 years experience in med surge. I have acls, telemetry, and float experience. What do ya think?

I apologize that I'm not able to offer any details regarding the hospitals down here, but as far as cost of living goes the CSRA (Augusta and surrounding areas) is awesome. We have a ton of hospitals here, as well Georgia Regents University (formally Medical College of Georgia) in case you want to further your education. I've lived here for almost 8 years as a West Coast transplant, and am applying to nursing school in a couple months. The CSRA is definitely worth looking at. Columbia County in particular is a great place to raise a family, and we have quite a few 9/10 rated schools. Good luck!:)

Thanks so much o your reply! Ill take a look at this area

You're welcome! I should also mention that we are about 2.5 hours from Atlanta and an hour from Columbia, SC. It really is a great location to access big cities, the mountains, or the coast as a day trip:) They are also building a new hospital here in the next couple years, it's supposed to be pretty big.

We are looking at Augusta as my husband will likely be attending medical school at MCG. Can you recommend a good area to rent in the Augusta area? I know a lot of people who live in Evans — mostly military folks who work at Ft. Gordon. I am not sure where I will be working, but I am an experienced ER nurse so it shouldn't be difficult to find work!

Thanks for any insight!

We live in Evans and I love it! It's a bit of a drive from the hospitals downtown, but nothing terrible:) Martinez is nice as well. Grovetown may be a little farther than you like if he is comminuting downtown and chalking up long hours at the hospital (you as well). Honestly though, even a commute from there isn't bad (30 mins).

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it! :)

I will be moving to the Evans or Grovetown area in April and I'm a little underwhelmed about hospital opportunities or where to apply. I'm possibly interested in a clinic, too. I have 1.5 years med-surg experience. Any help?

In the the Augusta area, we have Trinity Hospital, MCG/GRU (highest pay scale), Doctors Hospital, and University Hospital. We also have 2 VA hospital locations and an army base with a hospital. There's also Select Specialty Hospital which is more of a long term acute care facility (which I hear no one recommends you work at). MCG is set to open up a new facility in Columbia County in the coming years and University has a small hospital already in McDuffie County, which is the next County over from Columbia County. If you have a SC license, you can drive across the river to work in Aiken, SC as they also have a hospital. If you are interested in clinic work, the major hospitals sometimes have clinic positions posted on their sites (University has nurse positions posted for their prompt care and cardiology clinics). I'd stay away from living in Richmond County mostly because of their school system, but Columbia County is great.

Im hoping for a per diem position, what hospitals do you recommend the most with highest staff satisfaction? I'm also very confused about how to register as a nurse in Ga the website is only showing options for new nurses and restoring an inactive license? Any information is helpful as this will be my first time getting a job as a nurse outside of the job I have now which was a residency start as a new RN. I'm a little overwhelmed with everything. Really enjoy my hours and job right now so scared about starting over.

Danielle, all of the GBON forms are here: Download Forms

This is the one you need, licensure by endorsement: http://sos.ga.gov/PLB/acrobat/Forms/38%20Application%20-%20Licensure%20by%20Endorsement%23.pdf

I looked at the openings in Aiken; they are offering a $10K bonus for ER nurses. Yikes. They must be very short-staffed!

Wow is right...no ER for me though :(
