How 2 study Med-Surg

I know this may sound strange but, for the systems I really didn't understand, I wrote things out on posterboard and posted them around the house so I would always have to look at them and study them. Works great for labs, the hypers and hypos (kalemia,natremia, etc) and acid-base. It worked for me.

I would highly suggest taking the hurst review online if this is the case. If i remember correctly you are the one that hasn't been in school in 10yrs? I could be wrong and I apologize if I am. But I think the hurst review did an EXCELLENT job in explaining the body systems. It's a 90 day online course take at your own pace. She goes over all the body systems and OB, PEDs and Psych. It is highly interactive. There are outlines to print out and take notes as she is lecturing to you. After taking her review course, my grades on exams went up 15- 20 % higher. http://www.hurstreview.com I took the course in one week. I committed during spring break to sit down everyday for 4 hrs and do her lessons. You can do it at your own pace but you have access for 90 days. She also sends you a chunk of extra information on delegation, triage, peds, ob and a mock NCLEX.

Yup that is me! but you know what? I feel better prepared now than I did then! weird uh? I guess our nursing school had a lot fail that year and they had to revamp there program. I feel I got a lot of clinical experience but as far as systems we just memorized what we had to to get by . I was an excelent student just dont feel they explained stuff the right way.

My school was the same. We were the first class to graduate from them. Hahaa! We didn't get a good base foundation and basically just got our way through school. I graduated with honors and did well but felt things weren't explained too well. The hurst review sealed the deal for me. Now I want to go back to that same school and tutor or teach so students will be ahead of the game.

I just suggested hurst because you said you were having problems with body ssystems. She teaches you and explains it in understandable ways. She doesn't teach tricks to answering questions etc.etc. She teaches you the information so when you go work as a nurse, BAM you have your stuff together.

Forgot to say that you could try NCSBN website http://www.learningext.com They have a review course on their. You can pay for the 3wk, 7wk or 12 wks course. I paid for the 3wks course for $49. It has tons of information and goes over every body system page by page. I only used it for the exams because I heard from this site it was very similar to the NCLEX in style. These are the same ppl that write for the NCLEX. The rationales aren't very good but I think it really helped me with knowing what to expect on the boards. If you do a search on this website and type in "NCSBN" you will see what others thought of this program.
