I didn't have a combined Anatomy & Physiology class. But I did Biology in the summer (8 weeks), Chemistry in the fall, Microbiology in the spring, then Physio in the summer, and then Anatomy in the fall. Lab components to those science classes are really time consuming so I recommend not taking more than one science class per semester. Taking only one science class a semester (with general ed/other easier classes) really allowed me to focus on just that specific class and helped me get the grade I wanted. I don't know what your prereq requirements are for A&P and Micro, but taking Bio and Chem before starting A&P and Micro is a must because they will teach you the fundamentals of science you need in order to succeed in those harder science classes. Hope that helps!
Chemistry is not required to get into my ADN program. I took a basic bio class as a refresher first, because I hadn't taken one since I graduated from high school 12 years earlier. Then I did A&P1, A&P2, and Micro, in that order. Each was a prereq for the next, so I didn't even have an option to take them together. I am in Micro right now, and very glad that I took the A&Ps first. It's definitely been helpful. I am going to take chem in the fall, since there are no openings for clinicals until the spring semester.
I do not have to take chemistry either. I did A&P I, then A&P II and micro together, and am doing advanced physio this semester. I didn't find taking two sciences together too bad. I also took 3 other classes with those two and I pulled A's in every class except micro where I got a B. It just depends how much time you can devote to each class. I don't work so I have some more time than others.
I would do Bio and Chem before A&P 1/2, if you have the option. At my school, Chem is not required for A&P 1/2, but I wish I had taken it to help flesh out some of the concepts we're learning in physiology. Some of the students in my class say taking a general bio class beforehand was also helpful.
Good day:
Summer I 2013 Semester - Human Biology with lab
Fall 2014 Semester - AP 1 with lab, Basic Microbiology (no lab)
Spring 2014 Semester (still in progress) - AP 2 with lab, Microbiology with lab
Please note I did take more classes each semester than listed above; above are only the hard core sciences
Thank you.
