How is the RN job opportunity in Plano/Dallas area?

Published

Hi friends:

I am thinking about moving to Plano, Texas. I will like to know how is RN job market there? How much they pay you? I have 1.5 year experience as med/surg RN. And do they offer any insurance or other benefits? It seems like Plano a good place to live. Thanks for the input.

I've heard the DFW job market is good for nurses. RNs can basically have their pick of jobs (as long as they have nothing on file with GroupOne).

Group One is getting a lot more attention than it deserves honestly - while a few people have had some significant issues that have been rather unjustified, there are ways of handling these issues and they are not the norm.

Plano Presby has just added a major expansion and the new Centennial hospital is hiring in Frisco, and the new Baylor hospital in Plano is hiring as well.

Plano is nice - a bit more settled and not as far out as Frisco, you can get a lot of nice house for the money and everything is nearby. The schools are EXCELLENT. I would look for something as far north and west 'ish to the degree you can afford.

Thank you all for your reply. I will check Plano area for employment more seriously. I was worried because someone in the forum stated RNs have hard time to land a job in Dallas/Fort Worth area. And they are underpaid. Is that true?

That individual was not talking about the Dallas area - that person was talking about way out in the Panhandle region. Pay rates in Dallas are some of the best in Texas in for RN's, and jobs are readily available.

Don't bother with the newspapers though - check the websites of the individual facilities you are interested in, They have extensive job listings.

Thank you for the above. I've waited for someone to voice an opinion similar to mine.

I have lived in McKinney & worked in Plano for 5 years. My salary and benefits are competitive with other facilities.

C'mon and see what Collin County has to offer!

I agree with this post. As an RN you have so many possibilities to choose from in the DFW area. In our Nursing Program we have recruiters from different hospitals come and compete with eachother. Each one of the hospitals is competing with a bigger pay rate, better benefits or a bigger sign on bonus.... I know when I graduate, it will be easy to find a job.

And if you live north of McKinney, the housing cost is really low. I am living in Sherman, and it only takes me 30 min. to get to McKinney, 45 min. to Plano, but I am only paying $500/month for a 3 bedroom House. I payed that much for a 1 bedroom appartment in Dallas.

Richardson Regional is also looking for Med-Surg nurses w/ experience. The pay for new grads is the Dallas/Collin County area is $19.00-$19.50 per hour (regardless if BSN or ASN); so I suspect that with your experience, you'd get about $20.50-$21.00/hr--Don't know if you consider that good pay or not?

Couple years experience should get you about 23-25 an hour base.

Thank you for your kind reply. $23-$25 is about what I get paid in Arizona now. But it seems Dallas suburb housing is much cheaper than Arizona. Plus, I like elmentary schools in Plano. As you guys said, there are jobs readily available in the area. I may just move there. I am not sure which hospital you guys recommend in Plano or the region? Thanks a lot!
