How does one become an Infusion Nurse?

Specializes in Endoscopy/Infusion.

I am going to work for a speciality office and they do provide their patients with IV therapy - I'm curious how one gains, knowledge, experience in this field. I know once I start I can discuss this with the practice, but just curious how others got their "start" in this area.

Thank you

I am about to start working for an infusion company and its my first so will try and remember to reply on how it is.

thank you threebrats46 - besides being an RN what other experiences helped you obtain this job? Just curious.....thanks again and best wishes!

I just started the job (well orientation) and so far LOVE it. I worked on a very very busy med floor in a teaching hospital and just every single change I got to practice putting in IVs,dressing changed on PICCS..etc..reading up on different medications, watching side effects. As long as you have hospital floor experience, you will train and learn the rest on the job. Good Luck!

Glad you are enjoying it!! Thanks for the note and best wishes again..

Specializes in Perioperative Nursing Certificate.

Hello,

I am interested in infusion nursing...I wanted to find out if you all are still liking this speciality?

Thanks!

I absolutely love infusion nursing. The specialty of infusion nursing crosses many other fields of nursing such as oncology, vascular access, interventional radiology, home health, and others.

Many SNFs will hire RNs to become IV nurses which is a way to start in infusions.

I am just getting my foot in the door with a home infusion therapy company(Phila area).

I'm very excited on where this may lead too in my nursing career.
