How old is too old?

I will be starting the MN program in May (yeah!) and it's been a long time coming! Marriage, children, divorce, and marriage again has finally afforded me the opportunity to complete my degree. I'm now 40. I was 26 when I first dreamed of being a nurse. I certainly don't feel old, and I expect to work into my 60's. Is this unrealistic considering the demands placed on a nurse?

Are there any others undertaking this challenge that are "old"?

Am I glad I found this site ! At 57, after being a medical assistant, dental assistant, paramedic, and raising three kids, I finally have the time to fulfill my dream of finishing my RN degree! In my second year now, and enjoying every minute of it,

And I'm certainly not going to let a little arthritis get in my way. :wink2:

I'm so happy to hear I'm not alone !

I don't know what kind of entrance test you are taking....is it just a general entrance test for the college? Or is it specific to the nursing school?

Whichever it is, I wish you the best of luck....you are a GREAT age to be going back to school and in to this profession!!

Specializes in OR, Hospice.

48 and graduating in 80 days!! :w00t:

Specializes in Certified Diabetes Educator.

I started LVN school at 40. I'm finishing my ADN this semester for my RN and then it is on to the BSN and maybe MsN after that----who knows---one step at a time. I take care of myself, don't smoke, not over weight, so I plan to work in some capacity for a long time. If I'm not too old, then you sure aren't.

What was that old commercial----you aren't getting older, you are just getting better.
