How old is too old for an Algebra class

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi everyone,

I'm going to school for the second time. This time to become a nurse of course. I have a college algebra class from 2004 and my question is how old is too old to count? should I retake it? I hesitate because A) I hate algebra B) I'm afraid of getting a C and dyluting my GPA. My sciences are all A's so far. C) I don't have a lot of room to play with as far as time goes.

I want to apply to UTW and TWU next spring and I know they want you to have Statistics before you apply. At this point because of my old algebra I am allowed to go straight to statistics but I fear that once I try to transfer they may not like how old my Algebra is. Does anyone have experience with this?

Specializes in NICU RN.

My pre-nursing courses from Canada did not "translate" over to the US system. I have to take all of my courses over again (even though I tested in the upper 5% for honors English). That being said I would not risk a lower grade for anything. At my school, I've been told the nursing program is crazy competitive. I'll take all the A's I can get - even if that means repeating classes I've already got.

Repeating the math was never a question for me. Math is something that I have to work very hard at, even though I got A's in the course the first time around. If there is any doubt repeat the course, grab the A from it and gain a nice refresher before jumping into Stats and Chem.

You'll do great! No worries!

I think you have convinced yourself that you cannot do algebra. If you can do well in chemistry, you can certainly do well in a basic college algebra class.

There is nothing magical about algebra. Take the class if you are worried. Get a tutor if necessary. But I bet it won't be.
