How is NCLEX scored 2 times?

Hi there! I took my nclex today. What a beast of an exam. 30-35 select all that apply. 1 ekg/med SATA, tons of meds... It sucked. It stopped at 75 and I was like "no. but WAIT... Let me prove myself!" 😭

said I wouldnt do the PVT, but I did. Got the good pop up... And I totally know there is a chance it might be a bad pop up tomorrow 😭

but my question is: so, the exam is scored twice... But how? What makes them change a fail to a pass? Or a pass to a fail? Is it because they can tell if you were going to pick another answer? Is their test and items written wrong? Does a person go over it and decide? I just see everyone and the website say it is scored 2x, and would like to know if anyone knows what that really means?

Sorry for the grammar issues. On phone and brain isn't working anymore today lol

So if you do PVT 12 hours later... is it more accurate? (I am sure not to believe it before 24 hours)

Seriously, how is anyone satisfied with not fully understanding WHY the exam is scored 2x? That **** baffles me.

I think someone goes over it and they do it because computers can miss things and they're checking to make sure the answer you choose is in fact the intended correct or incorrect answer.

It is a quality control measure, nothing more, nothing less.

The first score is instant, which is how your exam shut off when it did. It had determined to a 95% certainty at that point that you had either passed or failed.

Doing the PVT at intervals is no more accurate than waiting the full 24 hours. I can say that until I'm purple, but people will still not be able to stop themselves from pounding on the buttons to willingly submit a $200 payment without any proof they need to.

The REASON you should wait 24 hours is because it is at some unknown point during that time period that the second (validation) scoring/checking occurs. NO ONE knows when that is, because it isn't a constant: one person's exam may be considered finalized at 12 hours, BoN notified, and the name goes up on the website the very next day. Others it takes the full time, and nothing is posted on the BoN website until long after that. Or any other combination of possibilities.

You already took the risk in trying to create a new registration; it would not let you. The indication, therefore, is that your first score was a 'pass'. In all likelihood, it will STAY a pass, as stopping at 75 questions is a pretty conclusive thing, nothing 'iffy' or 'on the fence' about it.

Since the huge majority of test-takers pass on their first attempt....it's quite likely you did too.

Thank you for the responses... I still have the good pop up 24 hours after... But I am skeptical. Won't believe it until I see the pass!

What confuses me is how people pass the first score and fail the 2nd score and vice versa. Like if the computer determined with 95% accuracy either way, then it seems weird how the results can be switched sometimes.

Also, do you know how select all that apply questions work on nclex? Is it like normal and only 1 point per question or do they give you some credit for part of the answer? Because almost half of my exam was SATA and it really beat my confidence down to the ground! My friend only had 8 SATA yesterday. So I just felt like that was random and wonder why I got so many?

It is completely random, and if you choose some of the correct responses but not all, it is an incorrect answer. If you choose an answer that is not correct, it is still an incorrect answer. No such thing as partial credit, and it doesn't "count" more or less than any other format-type of question.

Some people get many alternate format questions, some get relatively few. Means nothing either way.

Not even 30 hours later and it is up on breeze already!
