How much orientation did you get as a new grad Lvn?

Nurses LPN/LVN

Hello.

I'm just curious to see how much orientation everyone got before they started alone as an LVN..

my job has only offered me two days of floor orientation and is not trying to put me alone because they are short staffed.. In the beginning I was told I would get more days.. During orientation no one has really explained how their PCC charting system really works.. So I'm worried that if I'm alone I'll be lost regarding charting.. Some people tell me to just refuse to be alone till I feel comfortable.. But my adon seems like he might not find anyone to orient me and I will therefore have no choice but to be alone.. UGHHHH

As a new grad, I received two days of orientation on a 25-27 bed unit & was on my own the third day. It absolutely was NOT enough time to learn everything, however, I was very lucky to have a few great "older" (more experienced) nurses who helped me out. These nurses were great mentors and I hope you will be fortunate enough to find mentors as well.

And, oh my, do I remember those four-hour med passes.....and how I cried when I got home!

It's certainly worth a try to speak with your ADON or DON and ask if you may receive some additional training, even if it is just a special session (with an experienced co-worker) which will review the charting system in your facility.

Hang in there, and good luck to you.

Im in a assisted living I was suppose to get 5 days but ended up getting 6. Which wasnt enough. We have 50 residents but can have 70. Med pass is crazy takes darn near all day. But determined to get it down to 4 hours. You pretty much learn as you go along.

I had 3 days as a brand new nurse, one of which was spent with a very short - tempered nurse who barely acknowledged my existence and didn't bother answering any questions I had.

I was told I would be with a preceptor for 12 weeks but that didn't happen. Two weeks into when I started, a nurse left so I couldn't have my preceptor with me since she was busy tending to other patients. (I work in a clinic). Luckily I picked everything up pretty fast because she ended up leaving too. Now I pretty much know all the nurse visits and procedures and everything. But it was a rough start for sure! Good luck!
