How much money do some nurese make?

Nurses General Nursing

Is it true that nurses that work in a speciality make more then a med-surg nurse? And about how much does a doctor office (or surgy center) rn's make? I never really considered doing that but if floor nursing does not work out for me ,I need another option. :uhoh3:

Thanks for any advice.

I'm making next to nothing..... with a mountain of debt to clear post college.

*sigh* Sometimes I console myself with the fact that at least I don't have any dependents!

I feel you on that!

I never understood why, when a nurse who has attained a specialty certifiction, mostly at his/her own expense, to earn and maintain, yearly, should have to jump through hoops to be reconized for it.

Why should hospital administration allow Med surg nurses, or any other nurse, who has not gone through the same trouble, stress, and expense, have their ego stroked by administration, by allowing them to earn the same pay as those who have achieved more.

Linda, Med surg IS a specialty and it also has its own specialty certification to go with it. And we go through trouble, stress, and expense to maintain it as well.

If you willing to work, you can make a lot of money in nursing (I'm just not willing to work that much, I like my time off....lol). I know nurses making close to $100K a year working per diem, agency, travel in or out of state, etc. In my hospital just picking up an extra shift will earn you well over $500 (I mean that is an extra $2000 a month just working 1 extra shift a week). Any travel RN that I know is making $100K a year with all expenses paid, and I know a couple of them, the two that I know who did it, did it to pay off their student debt in a year, neither had families and could work as much as they wanted.

It just depends on how hard you are willing to work.
