How much did you earn your first year?

Published

Hello, I am interested in nursing and am currently getting my 2 yr degree to be an RN. I am really interested in how much do the nurses make because some people say they make good money and others say they do not.

How much did you approx. make your first year/ or how much are you going to make and where do you live?

I think I made about 42,000 my first year. I work at the hospital that pays the least in my area. I am pretty sure that I could make at least $4 an hour more if I went to another hospital. Sometimes it is tempting, but I like where I'm at so I will grin and bear it.

I am from Northwest Indiana and I make 22.00 per hour working in an IMCU. Looks like my wage is a little low!

I started off at 22.96 an hour with a 1.50 shift diff. But becasue I am in a union i get a pay increase evcery june and in july for shift diff.:yeah:

starting pay around my area is 17.50..

Definitely not enough for your level of training and responsibility.....

I started at 27.72. with a 10% PM/noc differential. 25% for S/SU. 35% for weekend/evenings.

In mpls.....

I just got a job in Orange County (CA) and I'm going to be getting paid 27.95 with a $4 shift diff for nights in an ER.

Since I have my BSN its 5% more than what an ADN would make at this hospital. If I go on and get my MSN or any crts like CEN or CCRN I get another 5%.

Also, since its a Versant program I read that we are generally paid less. I have no idea for what reason though.

I think its less than what most hospitals pay their new grads around here but its tough finding a job these days and so I took what I could get!

I work at the local peds trauma hospital in orlando..New Grad BSNs make 21.45 base with Diffs of $4 from 3-11 and $8.75 from11-7.. It's worth it to work nights, although it's hard on the body!

You must take into account the cost of living in your area. If you live in a high-cost area aka Cali etc....your wages are going to be more.

Hello WeebabyRN. I am curious if you would mind sharing which hospital you are at. I am also in NC, and am trying to gather information. Certainly work environment should be factored in to any decision about job benefits.

my first year i made around 27,000. my second year 42,000. my third year 60,000. this is in north carolina. my first job was in the hospiatal and then i went into dialysis in my second year

i work 2 12hr shifts per week and my checks are $1550.

I live in NYC, so I think because of the cost of living here the salary is more.

Unfortunately, I'm not working yet because most of the hospitals here are either on a hiring freeze, or they're looking for experienced. The one hospital I interviewed with was offering 66,500, and 6,000 more if you worked night shift. Obviously I didn't get that job, but I just had an interview this past week at a clinic and I didn't get a definite repsonse on salary yet, but they thought it might 60,000 since I'm a new grad. I had an idea it would be a drop because a clinic is not going to pay you what a hospital does.
