How many times selected?

Nurses Recovery

Published

Just thought I would ask others if or while any of you were in a DMU with PNAP how many times you were selected every month to give a random urine...I am just starting the PNAP and just was wondering. I had already completed another states 3 yr alternative program but this state would not accept that program i completed successfully......so now i have to do it again for PNAP......

I apologize for being unfamiliar with the acronyms DMU or PNAP. Under my discipline agreement with the state board I am required to call my testing facility every day which I have done for almost 3 years now. Typically, I am selected randomly once per month to provide a urine sample. There have been a couple of months when I have been selected twice.

I have to call daily. My contract states that I am to be randomly tested at least 18 times a year. So that translates to monthly. I have been chosen twice a month before. And Two times I had a third time. Though one of those ones was a third time because it was the next day due to a dilute urine ( the only time I could get there was after a loooong meeting in which I drank a lot of water and sode)

hey thanks for the replies i appreciate it......PNAP is the peer nurse asst. program.....and DMU is their displinary monitoring unit.....well they told me i am only to call Mon thru Fridays.....I was surprised because in the other state that I completed their alternative program I had to call everyday.....well i am hoping they don't select me more than twice a month because it is quite expensive.....thanks........

Unfortunately, there is very little "acceptance" of one states monitoring, disciplinary or alternative program to another. This is one of the things the NCSBON was/is trying to change...establish uniformity from state to state in the way these programs are run. I'm not holding my breath when it comes to them actually achieving their goals, but it's got to start somewhere.

Oh I found that out Jack.....I was so upset when I completed the Ohio alt.prog. and I notified the PA and they said...sorry you have to do ours now and they put me in the PNAP......I had a lawyer but didn't help.....well it is what it is and I had to turn it over as the program teaches us in recovery.......I was just wondering about the monthly random urine screens how many they will select me for because the prices have went way up.....Goodness Gracious !! One thing is my casemanager I have in the PNAP is really a great person and she has 20 yrs under her belt with recovery......I always look forward to your posts on here Jack.....I appreciate your words of wisdom...thanks.:)

Sunset,

Its good to hear from another PNAPer. I started the program back in May of this year, and I havent been selected more than twice per month. My contract says 'a minimum of twice, monthly' but it hasnt been more than that since Ive started. I think it depends on your case manager, and the situation that got you involved with PNAP in the first place, as I know some nurses who are regularly selected 3 times per month.

Good luck with everything.

Hey Vehn.....thanks for the reply....yes it is good to talk to another PNAPer.....hey did you get anything regarding the Board reporting your case to the national practitioner data bank? what is that about? how long is your probation for? Do they ever give early release? I already completed another states alternative prog. successfully and Pa. wouldn't accept it and threw me into their DMU....PNAP.....
