How many times did you apply?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I was just wondering how many times others have applied to nursing school before actually getting in. I applied last fall for one program but was put on a waiting list. So this fall I am taking the pre-reqs for a BSN, and will be applying for both an assoc. and bach.

A little discouraged,

Jessica

i got my paramedic license in 9 months and then enrolled in excelsior. no waiting list at all. anyone can do it. took nursing pre-reqs at a community college. after 9 months from starting, i was making 50k as a medic, though i was putting in almost 60 hours. on the plus side, being a medic is much lower stress than a nursing job. you've got one patient, plus you get to study a lot while you're working. and best of all, you get to see the patient in the most acute stage of crisis, which helps your assessment skills. not only that, but after you're an rn, you'll be valued more because you'll also be a medic and able to work a code.

on the flip side, you can go to nursing school and deal with some crazy instructors on power trips :). i'll be dead before i set foot in a traditional nursing school.

all in all, you can do the entire thing in under 2 years if you're the sort who can work independently.

At the school I go to (University of Nevada, Las Vegas), there isn't a requirement to "apply" persay. As long as you have the minimum G.P.A., get at least B's in the most important nursing pre-req's (A&P, Micro, ect...), they will let you in the program according to the date you matriculated as a "pre-nursing" student. Its kind of nice not having to apply persay.
