Hi everyone!
I'm curious about how many of you BSN or associate degree students have to take or have taken the HESI and pass in order to go into your preceptorship (aka last semester)? My school requires us to pass it with an 850. We have 4 tries. Last semester 22 students didn't pass and had to retake the semester! I had my first try at the end of last semester and got an 812 . Hopefully, I can prepare and pass at the beginning of next semester. What are the rules for your schools?
we take a HESI test at the end of each class (so ever four to eight weeks, depending on class length) & then a comprehensive HESI at the end of our program.
Same here. Mini-Hesi at the end of every semester, with a comprehensive at the end of the program. We have to pass the final one, though, or retake the last semester.
Same as Bortazz and Puresass - we take a HESI as our final in each core class (worth 20-40% of our grade), then the big HESI at the end. We have two tries to make an 850 or we repeat preceptorship and try again next semester. It's just their way of maintaining their numbers, since most folks who score that high pass the NCLEX on their first try. I take the big one in a month...
I'm in an ADN program. At the end of summer quarter (freshman year), we have to take a HESI over the first four quarters of material. We have to get an 850. If you don't, you have to remediate - a self-study program individually designed for your weak areas. Then a few weeks later you re-take HESI and pay $100 for it.
At the end of senior year, we have to take an exit HESI the day before graduation. You must score a 950 on it.

From what I've heard, the HESIs are actually harder than the NCLEX. It's a way for the school to make sure that the students that come out of the school (that can pass the HESI) will pass the NCLEX. It makes the school look really good. One good thing about this method is that if you do pass the HESI, its pretty much a given that you will pass the NCLEX.
However, there is plenty of great study material out there. Plus you have more than once to pass it. I wouldn't worry about it too much. I'm trying not to.
