6a-6p 4-6 pts, g is our max on days. I usually have 3 and am charge nurse. When our census is high, I sometimes have 5-6. Say there are 21 patients on the floor, there will be 5 licensed (3 rn's, 2 lpns or vice versa) , two techs, and a unit secretary.

6p-6a 5-8 pts, 8 is max. Usually one or two techs from 6p-10p and unt secretary. One tech from 10p-6a.

It works well usually. Thank goodness we haven't been short lately. We also have one or two nurses on call everyday.

In Texas (and most other states) there are usually a minimum of 4 RNs and a tech for night shifts in labor and delivery. you can have a max of 3 triage, or 2 active labors, with that decreasing to 1:1 during transition, delivery, and recovery. (there should always be a baby nurse at delivery according to NRP standards). :rotfl:

The Commonwealth of Kentucky

Long Term Care, Physical Rehabilitation, and Dementia Care Facility. Split into three units Skilled (SNF), Intermittent (ICF), and Dementia units. Skilled and Intermittent have 1 nurse, 1 medication aide and 3 or 4 CNAs for 40-60 residents on first and second shift. The dementia unit shares a CMA and Nurse with the ICF unit on second but has there own CMA on days. Then on nights they either have 1 CMA and 1 CNA or 2 CNAs and the ICF nurse covers the dementia unit. ICF and SNF have 2 CNAs and 1 nurse each at night.

IL has been talking about having med techs. how does that work for you in KY?

stem cell transplant unit - 28 beds - 6 ICU beds for the transplant pt.'s

whole unit does 12 hour shifts

day shifts - 2 patients -if 3 have CNA

nights 3-4 pt's no CNA past 11pm

ICU - 1:1

Honestly our med techs or med aides are good. The nurse can deal with her four new admits, her full code, and a couple of tunneling stage 4's (came from home like this) and the medicines are passed on time. I cannot ever recall a CMA at our facility making a medication error. The girls I work with know their meds and are good care givers. I'd let them medicate me. A lot of people don't like the idea of having a CMA but they really help out a lot in LTC. I have nothing but positive things to say about CMAs.

I'm in a So Cal hospital. We have 3-4 mom/baby couplets but we also take gynacological pts too (hysterectomies, laps, etc) so that might be one of our pts. I work nights. We also have a unit secretary (although sometimes we share as we have three floors which can be opened up as overflow) and we also have CNAs which sometimes we have to share.

Dayshift-I average 7-8 pts.'s/day. On a good day 6 and on very rare occasions(low census, which we haven't had in months) 5. We have 2-3 Cna's to cover 38 pt.'s.

We have a high census right now- had 5 to start and then 6 with a new admit at midnight. 5 is almost ok if you don't have back to back piggy backs. 19 Pt 3 rn's a 1 cna Thank god for the cna she moves them, gets VS and I&O's. Still be at work getting all that stuff. :crying2: What part of IL?

I work in LTC on a 60 bed unit, but work with another nurse and we each get half of the residents. I'm in NJ.

Inpatient intensive care psych. Up to 12 pts w/(usually) 1 rn 1 lpn and 1pct/cna. Frequently have confused elderly, acting out psychotics, attention-seeking dds and axis II's. Reading this thread makes me feel lucky, even though most days I feel overwhelmed. Be good to your cna, from the numbers I've seen, these folks are running their tails off.
