Specializes in Burn ICU, Psych, PACU.

Work nights (18:30 to 06:30) in a Burn ICU and take 1 to 2 patients, with a burn tech until about 23:00. Sometimes those 2 patients feel like 20. Very rarely sit down throughout the night...eating is a treat!

Specializes in community health, LTC, SNF, Tele-Health.

I'm in Mass. in an LTC 16 patients to 1 nurse and 3 CNA's. Not bad compared to other places I've worked. In another LTC it was 42 to 1. That sucked.

Specializes in Palliative Care, NICU/NNP.

California med-surg 5 pts, 15 bed unit, 1-2 carepartners

missouri here, i work med-surg usually.

either shift, a or p, is

1 charge rn.

1 rn or lpn for up to 8 pt. 9 or more is 2 team leaders.

same for techs, 1:8, >9=2

we also have a ward clerk.

we are supposed to be able to call in extra help based on acuity, but it has to be pre-approved by the don, and she's a schmuck who never fails to say i believe you can handle it. ( she also never shows face on the floor to lend a hand, if that paints a picture.)

2 patients with MD private duty in the home.

Specializes in acute medical.

Morning shift 5 patients

Afternoon shift 6 patients

Night shift 8 - 10 patients

I work in a med ward in Australia

Specializes in LDRP.

1 patient in active labor (and that one patient will monopolize your time-the q15minute charting for epidurals/pitocin really add up!). plus, after they have the baby, and the nursery RN goes up stairs, then you have 2 patients!

3-4 antepartum patients

maybe 1 patient in early labor, one PP getting ready to be transferred upstairs

Specializes in Med/Surg, Geri, Ortho, Telemetry, Psych.

Missouri

when i worked med/surg it was 6-7 patients

when i worked geriatrics it was up to 35 (nursing home)

Norfolk Va..I work in the floatpool and go throughout the hospital except L&D and psych. Med/surg ratio mostly is 5/6 :1 sometimes 7/8:1. Different stepdowns vary from 3:1 to 5/6:1. This is on day shift.

I work med-surg hospital NJ, day shift 1 to 6 ratio, night shift 1 to 8 sometimes more.

I have been taking care of 8 patients on night shift on a medical surgical floor. Sometimes we have a new admission so it might be 9. We have one CNA for 15 patients so it's not so bad.

Specializes in pediatrics,officeob/gyn.

i work on a pediatric floor and our matrix for nine patients which is supposedly our average daily census (many times is well above this and also includes adults) calls for 2 rns a assistant and a secretary. We rarely have a assistant scheduled. Our turnover is so high.during the winter we may discharge all nine and admit 9 or more in a 12 hr period. It takes two to start ivs onlittle ones so during that time there is no nurse on the floor since we are in the treatment room.needless to say beds and baths are the least of our priorities
