How many Pt do you take care of?

Published

What is you Pt to nurse numbers?

What state are you in?

Hospital or ECF?

WOW.....I can't believe some of the outrageously high nurse to patient ratios!!!!

I can't either. It's really shocking. I am forever grateful for California's ratio law.

When I team lead, I give meds, do assessments for 15-16 pts.

When I am not team leading, I have a patient load of 4 to do cares with, aid with adl's. do treatments with, etc...

I work night shift in a rural hospital ICU/CCU (6 beds). Depending on census, we have 0-3 patients each (staffed solely with 2 RN's). Total patient care - we also staff the telemetry monitors ourselves, have no unit clerk so we put in our own orders, etc.

LTC w/ 33 pt's. I stay BUSY! 2nd shift. Pacific Northwest area

Specializes in Surgery in HepatoPancreatobiliaryGastro.

I work in a General surgical ward. During the day I take 6 - 8 patients. Depends who I'm working with and how heavy the patients are and if I'm co-ordinating. We have 2 HCAs during the day. At night, I take 8 - 9 patients. We only have 1 HCA at night to assist us.:nurse:

I work cardiac/renal med-surg in NJ, we have 7-10 pts. and 1 tech. on night shift,

Specializes in Too many to list.

One night last week, I had a floor with 70 patients. Luckily for me, the sup came over to do 6am meds on 1/4 section, and paperwork for patient's appts or I would have been going nuts. God bless the LPN's who regularly work that floor. There were 4 CNAs. I started the med pass at 4AM.

I'm excited because I just switched jobs!

I was working at a facility where I would work in the healthcare center OR the dementia unit on days. We were short staffed since August and it was wearing on me. In the beginning (Fully staffed) the resident to CNA ratio was 10:1. For the last few months it was more like 15:1 in the HCC and originally 7:1 in the dementia unit but most recently 14:1.

The new place I work at (Since Oct. 1) I was hired for just the dementia unit only. I took an over night position. The ratio there for CNA on overnight is 18:1 (Days it is 6:1), BUT the night nurse really helps out so it's like 9:1. But on overnight, most are in bed with only 2 or 3 people awake at night. So it actually feels like maybe 2:1.

Old place the Resident to Nurse ratio on day shift in the HCC was 40:1 and the dementia unit 14:1. New place dementia unit 9:1 (days).

My new facility also has a HCC but I don't know the ratios. There are 65 residents there and when I walk through it at NIGHT I've seen 4 aides and one nurse... ???

I really love the new facility I'm at! They said it is really hard to get on there... and now I can see why. :nuke:
