We do celebrate Nurse's day at my hospital. Best gift I ever got was a gift certificate of $20 to Olive Garden .
  2. I'm a BSN and love it. Hoping to eventually get my Master's Degree.
  3. At the hospital where I work this is mandatory. I personally belive it is the right thing to do, for the safety of the public and staff.
  4. I never made a medication error and hope will never make one. I have been a nurse for 3 years now and double checking myself or checking with another nurse when needed has helped a lot. I would report an error if I ever make one and I would look for ways to not let that ever happen again. I think making errors is human nature but we as nurses can't afford them especially when administering medication.
  5. I am an RN. Worst place to work in for me would be ICU because I feel the "air smells like death there"...so many critically ill patients and so few that make it only to return a month later and die. The best place would be either L&D or postpartum units...so much happiness and new lives! Most patients are also healthy and in need of teaching how to care for their babies...love it
  6. I have to agree with RNvampire on this. It would also be important to have nice coworkers and great benefits since I am not married yet and I depend on my own health insurence.
  7. It depends how much money you are willing to spend...I would think a PDA would be nice but is expensive...you can also get him a new drug book -- that should be cheaper.
  8. I also do it for documentation purposes but I find it unreliable. I agree to other people who posted and said that other signs such as warmth, pain, tenderdness are more reliable.
  9. I don't belong to any association right now. I think I might in the future, especially if I decide to continue my education and pursue a Master's degree.
  10. I try and take a break every 5 hours. Nurses don't like other nurses who take breaks...if you smoke and you do take a break, the non-smokers hate your guts and they complain about it constantly...I would suggest non-smokers go take their breaks instead of complaining!
  11. I did it the old fashion way...applied, went to interviews, waited...and finally got the job. I finished school in a different state then the one I permanently live in, therefore I could not accept offers while I was still in school (since the offers were from hospitals in that state).
  12. according to wikipedia, a disease is defined as the following: "any abnormal condition of the body or mind that causes discomfort, dysfunction, or distress to the person affected or those in contact with the person. sometimes the term is used broadly to include injuries, disabilities, syndromes, symptoms, deviant behaviors, and atypical variations of structure and function, while in other contexts these may be considered distinguishable categories." my opinion is that drug addiction is not a disease in itself but it can lead to disease.
  13. I would have no problem with it, the hospital has excellent staff and I trust them to do the best job on a loved one or friend.
  14. I so agree with your post! I learned to hate team or group projects because of it! I'm glad I'm out of school!
  15. I had a patient call her lady parts a beaver...
