How many points did you need to get into nursing school?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I am applying to community college nursing programs, and I was wondering how many points you need for acceptance.

Thank you

Good question! I am doing the same and would love to know how that works

For our program here locally, the points system looks like this:

- Up to 15 points for Health Occupations Aptitude Exam (HOAE)

-Grade point average is multiplied by 10: Up to 40 points

-Up to 10 points for college courses completed with a grade of “C” or better

-2 points – BIO 168 A&P I

-2 points – BIO 169 A&P II

-2 points – BIO 175 Microbiology

-2 points – CHM 131 & 131A or an equivalent or higher course Intro to CHEM w/ lab

-2 points – MAT 110 or higher math course

-Up to 3 points for other educational experience or current licensure **

- 1 point – Health Occupations I or Allied Health Science I

-1 point – Health Occupations II or Allied Health Science II

- 1 point – LPN**

- 1 point – Nurse Aide I / Nurse Aide II**

- 1 point - EMT**

- 1 point – Paramedic**

- 1 point – Certified Medical Assistant**

- 1 point – Bachelor Degree or higher**

**Documentation of current licensure must be submitted to admissions prior to January 31st deadline in order to receive points.

-Up to 25 points for interview (39 candidates with the highest numerical score will be interviewed)

Not sure what the points range actually *is*, but obviously the higher the better I would think.

Our program is ADN and you can have a total of 190...

ANP 1: 30 points A, 20 B, 10 C

Same for ANP 2

ENG Comp: 20 for an A 10 B and 5 C

and I believe same for psych 101.

Those are the only 4 weighted pre-reqs..

Then they take the subsections of TEAS scores and multiply them by a certain number. Science portion weighted heaviest and math weighted lowest. It all totals a possible 190 points possible!

AND we wont know anything until June! Killin me!

I wish our program at least gave you credit for current licenses or certifications like yours does! But I guess I see why they dont for the paramedic/rn bridge I applied for because everyone that applies obviously has to have a valid medic license. But they should do that for the traditional RN program. My paramedic program did that when doing selection process.

It depends on the program. Each school has a different points system. The program I applied to has a maximum of 180 points. The cut off for entry into last year's program was 141, but dropped to 138 when a few people couldn't accept their seats. We won't know what this year's cut off is until selective admissions finalizes the new cohorts.

Same here, depends on the program... for our community college, they take the grade you get in your prereq class (eng 101, psy 101, developmental psy, anatomy, physiology & microbiology) times the number of credit hours. For example, if I got a 3.0 (a B grade) in eng 101 and it is 3 credit hours then that class is worth 9 points. They give you bonus points if you got through Anatomy & Physiology without failing/withdrawing, for being a veteran and for already having a Bachelor's degree in another field. For our program you need a minimum of 50 points and often more if the candidate pool is strong.

The answer is very simple... it depends upon how the program you're applying to has their system set up. I would imagine that most would post or publish their points criteria so that you know where you will stand in terms of points. Where you stand relative to other applicants depends entirely upon that application filing period's pool of applicants.

At the program I'm in, they used to have a system where you had to have a certain core prerequisite GPA and co-requisite GPA to be considered qualified. Then once accepted, you had to achieve a minimum TEAS score to complete the process of getting into the program. They recently changed their program so that other factors could help you get in, but, in any event, you are required to get a certain composite score to gain entrance. The set the floor, all you have to do is meet or exceed that and you then get entered into a random selection pool. You essentially stand an equal chance of being selected if you meet minimum or you maximized the points on the chart. That change resulted in a (probably) smaller selection pool but also probably a smaller total number of applicants as some earlier applicants weren't fully qualified to begin with. This way, they can quickly screen those applicants and the applicants can also screen themselves to see if they're good to go.

That's my program, the ones you apply to will certainly be different! Learn their requirements, follow the application instructions carefully, as this is part of the selection process too.

It all varies by school and how their point system works!

I had all A's in my prereqs and a pretty descent score on my TEAS I think a 79 and I still didn't get in the first time. It just depends on who you apply with honestly.

They didn't have a set number of points. What they do is add your points against others, so either you float to the top or sink to the bottom :) Good luck.
