How many nursing schools did you apply to?

How many nursing schools did you apply to? Would you be willing to move if you could get into the right nursing school?

I applied to the 3 local programs...got accepted to one. I was willing to move maybe a couple of hours away after I tried at least 3 times to get in.

How does that work when you are working on one schools pre reqs and the other schools have other pre requirements? Like my pre reqs are

math

2 eng

API and APII

micro

intro and Dev. Phsyc

Arts and Hum

The differences aren't much, but I do see some require say 6 Arts & Hum credits or perhaps just plain different courses.....I hope this makes sense (I'm still 2 semesters away)

For one, many schools require the same basic pre-req's such as A&P, nutrition, and so on. So you may not actually have a whole lot more classes to do for different schools. If I don't get in this year I am going to apply at schools in Colorado and Arizona. I will have 5 classes to take to fullfill both of their requirements.

Also, some states or counties keep their pre-req's for the bulk of the schools either the same or really close. Like in Maricopa County, Arizona, there are 8 schools you can apply to. They all have the exact same pre-req's and graduation req's (except ASU). You pick your top 5 schools you want to go to and you submit 1 application for all of them. Then you go on the waitlist.

I applied to only 1 and got in. There was a second school that I would've applied to if I hadn't made it into the first one.

I would not have moved but that's because I have a child in school and I would not be willing to disrupt her life in that fashion.

For each school you must either meet their prerequisites or obtain a waiver based on professional experience or having taken a similar class. Your best bet is to just keep taking classes as you apply and don't stop until you get in. I've taken many more classes than I "needed" but I suspect it made me a stronger applicant. If nothing else, I bring a broad base of knowledge to individual problems and patient interactions and that's never a bad thing.

I applied to two; one state and one community college. I got into the state college because they use merit/point system and the community college uses a lotto. I did not apply to any other schools because they are the only two in my area. I am married and my husband has his own business; I do not have the luxury of moving, but if I was single I would for sure if I had to; but luckily in my case it didn't matter.

Community college throughout California have the same requirements; they did this for the very reason you are concerned about...

Put all my eggs in one basket and applied to one school, my first choice school, to which I was accepted to (luckily)

I just applied to one 2 days ago, they told me to wait for "the letter." I plan to apply to a CSU this august for spring 2009...then if I get in ...turn in my application to the SON in nov (which is their deadline). If I don't make it for spring 09 for SON...I just cross my fingers that the CSU at least is accepting.

I just applied to one 2 days ago, it was for an ADN prog. They told me to wait for "the letter." I also plan to apply to a CSU this august for spring 2009. I just hope the school is still accepting and has not hit max capacity for the year! Some time in Nov I'll turn in my application to their SON (which is their deadline). If I don't make it for spring 09 for SON it's okay! I just cross my fingers that the CSU at least is accepting.

I really want the BSN, rather than ADN of course...but we can't be picky I guess since it's soo hectic to get in! Ahh.

All in all...applying to 2 programs!

Well GOOD LUCK to EVERYONE! Just trying to think positively.

Some are slightly different. I had to fulfill different requirements for different CA CCs depending on whether the program was a waitlist program (get a number and park) or a lottery school. Also, some classes seem to be recommended at some schools, but required at others. Some classes needed to be completed before applying, and some needed to be completed before graduation and some weren't necessary at all.

Then, of course there were also more prereqs for the BSN. In the end, by meeting all the various requirements for each of the different ADN programs, it knocked out a lot of those BSN requirements!

Exatcly. That's why I asked. Having kids and only taking 2 classes a semester with no college before this I'm just starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel to apply at the cc I'm at - If I apply to others here in Maryland I may have to go another semester or two... but If I don't get in on the first try I guess I can pick some of those up and be able to apply elsewhere.
