Hi,
I have just received a letter in the mail saying they could not hire me at this time. This particular company is pretty big, so I know it is not a matter of competing for one position. This is so frustrating.
I have applied for 8 different companies in the past few weeks, not including inquiries, and I have interviewed for three positions. I was offered a job for one position, but I could not take the job because of prior commitments (I have to be selective in the hours I choose to work, because I have other obligations right now). I am now beginning to think I don't have what it takes to interview well enough for the jobs I am applying for. Is this typical? Nursing shortage, what shortage?

i wanna ask the same question. but i assumed you have a lot of nursing experience on your belt? i am a new nurse, by the way. i applied probably in all hospitals around my area..still waiting for that call. its almost a 3 weeks now. i even said in my application that i am willing to work any shift, even the dreaded night shift...oh well, lets wait and see. my last straw will be applying a job at wallmart or 7-11,:chuckle.....goodluck to you!

You can try calling the recruiter at this company and ask why you weren't hired. Come across like you would really want to know so that you can improve your chances at the next interview; ask what changes you can make in your presentation.
I am a new grad. As far as the hospital goes, I've been told that orientation only happens at certain times of the year. For instance, Sept. 25, 2006 was the last orientation for a particular hospital I applied at. I am sure orientation will be coming up soon again for the ppl who graduate in Dec. I think they schedule the orientations around dates that a lot of nurses are coming out of school and/or passing state boards. Maybe you can call the hospital and talk to somone in HR. Usually they are willing to work with you, and answer some of the questions you might have. Good luck!

I found that I got a better response by going in person to HR and filling out an application. Recruiters have been willing to interview me on the spot. When I have filled out applications online, getting a response was rare, maybe 25% of the time. Good luck.
I thought about doing this, and I feel quite embarrassed about it for some reason. For one thing it was so hard getting a hold of these ppl. I had faxed over at least two resumes, and called several times to no avail, I finally got a hold of a real live person, and she directed me to someone else. Anyhow I might just try to call the lady who interviewed me. Thanks!
