How many letters of reference should I send?

Nursing Students SRNA

Hello everyone, I have a question regarding how many letters of reference should I send. The University I am applying to requires 3(one from a crna). I have asked approximateley 5-6 professionals to write letters. I have asked Chief anesthesiologist, fellow ICU nurse, undergraduate professor, 2 CRNA's, and CT surg PA who also works in the ICU on the overnight shift. So my question is, what are the top 3, and should I send more than 3. Any replies will be appreciated. Thank you

I would pick the best three well written references. I would only send what they ask for. They may get several hundred applicants and have enough to read already.

If the application did not ask to obtain letters from specific people, then I would go with: CRNA, supervisor and a co-worker/or a doc. On the other hand, if you have the opportunity to read the letters before they are sent out, then choos the best of 3. Hopefully they are all great. As far as the number of letters, stick with the instructions. If it says 3, then only send 3. Good luck on the process, I know it's a though road!

Agreed. In fact, double check with schools pd. I know a hopeful that missed the interview for sending more than what was requested. Something about not following directions.

That was my immediate thought as well -- while the OP may feel that sending additional recommendations will strengthen her/his application, the school will simply see it as an inability or unwillingness to understand and follow directions.
