How many are left?

Published

I was reading another thred about the rollercoaster that is nursing school and I was wondering if other programs lost the same or similar numbers of students. Also there is an added stress of seeing my friends and classmates leave. So how many students has your program lost and how do you deal with seeing your friends go?

In my program we started out with 114 we are down to 91 now.:sniff:

I'm halfway through my 3rd semester of an ASN program. We started with 10, lost 1, and gained 1 from a group who started the semester before us.

Specializes in ER/Ortho.

I am a first semester student who started an RN program in Aug. We started with 40, and now have 39. We had one person leave after the first 2 days because of personal family issues unrelated to the program. My school has had a very high retention rate in the past which I hope continues as I and my new friends move through the program.

I also attend a ADN program. I'm currently in my second year. we started last year with 130. This year we're down to 90. My school has an avarage grad class of 60-65. So we anticipate loosing another 25 or so.

My program I don't know how many we lost total. We lost one over the summer and our class was split for the final capstone class. Half still had to take peds and the other half just finished up the program. I just finished and there were 17 of us and we almost lost one because of the final. She barely passed but did thank goodness. The other half that took peds the 1st 8 weeks has 12 but I heard that one person may not have passed.

Specializes in NeuroICU/SICU/MICU.

I'm in my 3rd semester of a 6 semester BSN program..my class started with 20, and we're all still here

Started with 60 down to 13 at home stretch, It may be la lower # at the end.

Specializes in ER, Med/Surg, MICU.

My class started with 67, and we were down to 25 after the first two semesters. We haven't lost any since. (I am in 4th semester now).

pharmgirl, sounds like you go to my school! We started with 40 in January 2007, and we'll graduate this December with 11 of those original 40! We will graduate with 20... the extras were ones that failed the semesters ahead of us. Some of our original 40 moved out of town, but most just failed. Our program is pretty tough. But now that I'm almost done, I can objectively say that most of this has to do with extremely poor teachers. Actually, I cannot honestly call them such. They are just occupying positions. Seems like you can have 1 day of bedside experience, but if you have a Masters in Nursing, BAM, you're qualified to teach. Go figure.

We started with 60 and half way through our first semester, we are below 50. However, next fall we will fill all those slots (and any more that open up) with LPN to RN bridge students.

4th semester student here getting ready to graduate in 5 weeks. We have MAYBE 20 left of our original class of 47. Half of that remaining 20 is in danger of failing 4th term. We are talking solid B students here... it's crazy. :(

Started with 120, left with 70....lost majority during the 1st and 2nd semester.

Specializes in ICCU - cardiac.

ADN: After 2.5 semesters, 300 began about 200 remain, maybe less. The Med/Surg courses are to blame. I graduate in May!
