If you work the night shift as a CNA or HHA, what is your schedule like for you if you work full time? Can you choose to work 12 hour shifts 7 days a week?

If anyone as a CNA got offered a job in hospital for patient care tech can you guys msg me to let me know how is the hiring process because I had to take pct test I failed so now I have one more chance and I son know what's next plz let me know more about job as cna in hospital you guys can send me private msg I do appreciate it

I currently work at a LTC facility as a CNA/unit secretary they are 8 hour shifts 7a-3p, 3p-11p, or 11p-7a. I will be leaving this position since it is only $12.00 an hour and going to the hospital for 7p-7:30a 2 nights a week (part time) $16.50 an hour (this is not including my evening, night, weekend, or holiday differentials).

You can get paid as much as $16.50 as a CNA?

That is asking for massive burn out or injury or both. I don't recommend doing that.

Why in the world would you want to do that? When I work shifts back to back, I have a total of 2 awake hours of free time between shifts. And by free time I mean "Let me wash these dishes and fold these clothes before I have to leave for work."

No. It is mandatory for them to pay overtime after 40 hours.

Spoken by someone who has never worked nights in healthcare. Sure sometimes on nights you can have downtime. Or you have nights where old confused pts keep trying to get out of bed, pts need ambulated to the bathroom, every 2hr turns, some places do night time baths and stocking. In short, NEVER assume a night shift job will allow for "downtime."

Have you ever dealt with a demented patient who's sundowning? What about two, even three or more who are not A & O? Even night shift is crazy at some point. I can tell you that at the very small hospital where I work, the night shift can be the worst shift to work because of the few people on staff in ratio to the number of ER patients and ER patients who get admitted.

I'm PT so I only work 2 nights a week, but if for whatever reasoning have to have 3 nights in a row, when I go to sleep I'm dead to the world for a whole day. Can't imagine doing 12 hour shifts 7 days a week! Who would want to do that??

NEVER assume a night shift job will allow for "downtime."

I thought a 12 hour night shift has about 7 hours of downtime
