How many CRNA schools did you apply to at a time per application cycle?

How many schools is reasonable to apply to? I am currently applying for two right now.

More about me... Overall BSN GPA: 3.75, Science GPA 3.4 (math classes not included). Certs: BLS, ACLS, PALS, CCRN, NIHSS. GRE 301, 4.0 writing.

1.5 years Level 1 MICU/SICU (preceptor and education classes here, no charge), 1 travel ICU contract, two months of ICU per diem work while getting married and moving for husband's military career. I am currently starting a full time job on a MICU/SICU with trauma, at a Level 2 teaching hospital.

I also have volunteer and shadow experience.

Where is the line between wanting to be selective on where you spend your time and money, but also not wanting to wait another year to apply again?

Thank you in advance!!

Not really sure what your asking with your post. Your title makes it seem like your wanting to know how many schools at one time that someone has applied to but your actual message is completely different.

As for the title post, I currently have 3 applications in at one time. Application dates vary so you may have one or two or more going on at one time. I'll have another to submit by October 1st and then some in January and February. It just depends on the schools that your applying to and their application deadline.

Now as far as the content of your message, your stats look good and if you feel like your ready then start applying. By the time your get into school, you should have close to 2 1/2 to 3 years of ICU experience which is about normal.

Sorry about that! Thank you for your patience and thoughtful reply!

You're right, my post is confusing. I couldn't figure out how to delete or edit it again lol I was trying to ask how does one be selective and intentional about applications when you're excited for the next step, but don't want to limit yourself due to not having very many applications submitted. I was also looking for affirmation on if I could be somewhat selective in my applications from my stats. I'm not sure if that makes more sense? I should have been more direct.

It makes sense. What state are you in? It depends on if you want to stay local or are willing to move for school. My state doesn't have a school yet so I'm going to have to move hence I'm putting out a few more applications than others might also my GPA is one the lower side at 3.18. Some people have a dream school that they want to go to but dont be pigeonholed by that and instead cast a wide net to help your odds. Your stats will get you interviews but your interview will get you in. Good luck.

I'm from Oklahoma, but am now living that military spouse life in Georgia. Probably will be in Texas next year. I'm trying to pick good schools around potential military posts across the country so I could maybe not be 1,000 miles away from my husband all of school! I've never applied to graduate schools before so I don't know what to expect!

How about yourself?

Oklahoma as well. The University of Tulsa is close to getting their program up and running. They hope to have applicants applying early next year for a Fall 2020 start.

I've heard about that! I emailed one of the professors there, she only could tell me that they are trying for an August 2020 start. Not sure if that means a cohort or applications being open. She said to follow their facebook page because they'll have a "media blitz" for sure. ? Is this your first year applying? What has your experience been like so far?

I got the same kind of email from the director of the nursing program. They hope to announce in November and have applicants apply the first of the year for a Fall 2020 start.

This will be my second year applying. I applied to 4 schools last year and got an interview at one school but wasn't accepted. My overall GPA has held me back a bit. I started nursing school with a 2.25 from my first school, long story on that one, but I've been able to raise it up to a 3.18. I have a 3.64 on my last 100 hours for my ADN and BSN. Science GPA is a 3.79. 3 1/2 years of Med-Surg-Neuro ICU, BLS, ACLS, PALS, CCRN, NIHSS, GRE 298 3.5, preceptor, 11 months Step Down ICU with Step Down charge experience. I also have 7 years of experience as a paramedic.

Wow! I definitely can see that you are committed. I'm sure the right school will too. Have you thought about getting your TCCN too? I've known a couple of people who have had that when they got into schools. Maybe it helped, maybe it didn't, probably wouldn't hurt. I'm going to be working on that next ? Would you apply to Tulsa once they are good to go? Or wait a year or so? Going to school in OK would be amazing, but I'm not sure if I'd want to be a guinea pig.

I've thought about TNCC but we dont get much trauma in my unit to justify it right now. I will be applying to Tulsa unless I get into another school. Even if I get into another school I'll probably still apply to Tulsa. I would like to stay local but I know that moving is a big possibility and my wife is okay with that. She is a principal so she can get a job almost anywhere in the country.

The best advice I can give you is to research the schools that you want to apply as much as possible to know that they're right for you and to start applying as soon as possible. Your stats are great and they will get you an interview. Then it will be your time to shine and show them that you deserve a spot in their program.

I would cast a wide net and see what happens. Those stats are fine, but everyone else applying has the same ones or better.

I think it is fine to have a plan for the school you really want but you need to have Plans B and C ready too. I did not get in to my first choice and was originally gonna wait a whole year and reapply cause it is a great program and the closest one to me.

I scratched that plan and spread out my search and will now finish nearly a full two years sooner than if I had waited and reapplied to the school I always thought I would go to.

This is my first year applying and I’m casting a wide net. I don’t mind moving so that helps. I’ve applied to 7 schools total. My stats are good, but so are everyone else’s. Hopefully 7 schools is enough to get me in somewhere ??‍♀️
