How to manage my time?

Published

Hi,

Thanks for reading my question. So... This is my first semester of college and I have three class with a lab. Anatomy and physiology 1+Lab, pre algebra, nutrition. I made a 70 on my first test cause I was studying other classes instead of focusing on this one. Than I forgot everything for my nutrition and made a 70. Whats the best way to manage my time for each sudject?

I can't say there is a best way to manage your time for each subject, but what personally helped me was having a planner with both a weekly and monthly breakdown. I would take each syllabus and write in due dates for homework assignments, essays, quizzes, exams, etc. My weekly layout had more detail than my monthly layout. I would recommend pencil or even an online planner in the event dates get moved around. You can add things in as you need.

By being able to see both your upcoming week and month, you can plan ahead! I have had weeks straight from the depths of Hades, but I was able to survive relatively stress free as I could plan ahead. Also, review each lecture within a twenty-four hour window. This helps to move what you know from your short-term memory to your long-term and will save you from cramming. Create a study plan for yourself and stick to it.

I hope these tips help. Best wishes!

I agree with the previous poster. Even if you can't keep up with a planner (I'm generally terrible at using them myself), even just mentally going over what you have coming up in the next month would be more helpful. Or even a quick list.

I'll also say that you might also be trying to memorize the information rather than learn it, which could be the reason you forgot so much information for nutrition so quickly. You want to study frequently and consistently so that you can truly learn and store the information, not just cram it in temporarily so you can pass a test. You also want to try to rationalize and understand the information you read so you are less likely to forget it.

Lets say March 8 you have an exam in AP1 with 4 main subjects. Thats about 4 weeks to prepare, I would have all 4 subjects and study guide down pack but the third week. Giving me a full week to repeatedly go over information until my eyes bleed and go online to do free exams. I would do the same for other classes, you have to stuck to some type of schedule or it will be chaos. Delegate specific time to each course and don't get side tracked. Sticking to this formula when juggling a few classes is not easy even when you have a schedule. I took AP1, Micro, and nutrition together, I earned all A's but I had a few sleepless nights and lived in the library.

You still have an opportunity to get A's
