How long do Titer Test results take?

Updated:   Published

Hi all!

I am quite stressed out at the moment. I need all my health requirements done for my nursing school by August 1st, I didn't intend on waiting until the last minute but things came up and I unfortunately now I only have a little over a week to get my titer tests done. I need MMR, Varicella, and Hep B. I got my physical exam today, told them I would come back on wednesday (I might just go tomorrow instead) to get my blood work done and asked the receptionist how long titer test results take and she said they can range anywhere from 2 days to a week or two because some of the tests have to get sent to the MAYO CLINIC? Does anyone have experience with titer tests taking that long, and if so which ones? I'm nervous my tests will take longer than the time I have left :(

Thanks everyone!

I went on a Friday to get my immunizations. I had tetorifice and MMR, then went two days later (Sunday) to have the titer read for MMR and hep b. They called me Tuesday with my results. So in total, 4 days.

Good day, Alanna_Kayy:

I went to Any Lab Tests Now, and my results were processed in less than 3 business days.

Thank you.

I got my titer results (varicella) back in a few hours, but the facility I got them done at had their own internal lab, so they didn't have to send them out.

I think if you don't have your results back yet you can give your program proof that you have had the blood draw... hopefully they'd let you be in the program conditionally for the few days if it really takes that long for the lab to get the results back.

I looked up prices for labs such as anylabnow.com and my total would cost a little over $200, which seems like an average price at labs but would it be cheaper at a doctors office? or does insurance usually cover these tests if I were to do them at a doctors office?

Do you guys think I'm better off going back to the place I got my physical and possibly waiting longer for results, or paying the price of a lab to do it and getting my results back in a more reasonable time?

thanks again!

It really depends on how your DR does it. Some DR's do it in house with their own lab, some DR's do it in house and then send away to a lab, which can a bit of time. Others, like mine, will give you an order to take to a lab and they will do the draw and run the test, but it still took 3 days. I would expect 3 or 4 days no matter where you get it done.

You should ask specifically how long the titers you need will take. Not just titers in general. Also, do you NEED to prove immunity with titers? If not, just tell your DR to give you a booster for the immunizations you need. That's what mine did. Mine however was familiar with the program here and knew everything I needed and just went "We got this". I was really lucky.

You should also talk to your program. Mine had allowances for people to register for classes even if they didn't have certain things listed as complete, but could prove that they were just waiting on it. It's unlikely that even with your titers pending you'd be with held from the programs as programs don't kick you out if the titers are negative, they just tell you that you need the vaccine or what not. As far as I know. All programs are different. Talk to yours!

This..

I got my titres done at my PCP; total turnaround was three days.

Just got my titers done last week. Took about 48 hours. But they also have an in house lab draw. I had my varicella done. I would talk to your program. Mine have to be in the beginning of Sept. So I scheduled my appt. as soon as I found out I had been accepted. If we need any immunizations like Hep B which has to be done in 3 doses over a long period of time, we just had to have the first dose done by the time we started school. It's not necessarily the school, it's the clinical sites that require this. So I would think as long as they are done by the time you start clinicals. But we were told at orientation if we didn't have this stuff done, it would be a bad day for us. I would have never waited on it. You worked hard to get into nursing school and don't let something simple like titers blow it for you.

I got my Hep B, MMR and Varicella titer last week for $139. I had my blood drawn on July 15 at 11:20 a.m. (Arizona) and the results were reported on July 16th (per the lab report) at 20:06 ET. When I checked my email in the wee hours of July 17th, I had a link to my results. :)

I went through requestatest.com/immunity-panel-testing. The price is normally $187 which was comparable to a couple other places I checked, so the discounted price of $139 along with an additional 5% off code (TITER%, only good thru July 31st) was a significant savings. I paid online and waited about 15 minutes for my order confirmation to be emailed. The draw site was a LabCorp right down the road from me. There was a short wait, it was super clean, and they were very professional

Unfortunately for me, one part of my MMR, the Rubeola Ab IgG, came back low and I don't have my vaccination records so I will need to repeat that shot. :(

Good day, Alanna_Kayy:

My tests ran $168.

Thank you.

thanks everyone for your responses,

I decided to just go back to the office where I got my physical done. The medical assistant told me I should get results within 3-4 days. I'm guessing the receptionist was thinking of less common titer tests that would have to get sent to the mayo clinic for results. So hopefully they all come back positive and I'm all set to go :)

Thanks again everyone!
