I'm a fourth year student & I've been wanting to be a nursing student since I entered college. But I've made some bad choices (like joining a sorority), which caused my grades to drop. Also, it's a battle each semester to just get into the pre-reqs I need because of the number of students trying to get in. Now, after mapping out my courses, I figure that I will have to wait until Fall 2009 to start applying -- just in order to finish up all my pre-reqs and boost up my GPA. That means it took me five years actively taking classes just to apply.
Is this common, or is it really just me? I feel so horrible for taking so long that I'm really hoping that I'm not the only one who found themselves in this situation.

Well, nursing prerequisites will have taken me a year and a half to finish going mostly full time. BUT this is after taking six and a half years to get my BA. So, I think it's really common.

I decided for sure that I wanted to be a nurse in March of this year (middle of spring semester). I will be finished with my prereqs (I'm already done with all general ed) after this coming spring semester, so I can start applying in fall, for a spring 2010 start. The schools I really want to go to only have fall starts though, so most of my applications will be done for fall 2010 start.
I also work full time
So, two semesters for the prerequisites.
But I started college in fall 2006, I just thought I wanted to major in something else. So it'll really take me three full years of college before I can apply.
