How long did it take you to get into a program?

Published

I'm almost done with prereqs but looking at some of the time you can spend on a wait list (2 years!) before being admitted into a program is really freaking me out. I was so ready to quit my job and finally start my real life.

So I just wanted to get an idea of how long it took you to finally start a nursing program after the application process. If there was a year or more what did you do in the mean time?

There has to be more to this story?? How could a phone call and no application get you into a nursing school?

Again, timing is often the key to life's successes.

The program I got into was at my alma mater. I held a degree from there already with all prereqs completed in my prior degree sans nutrition which was waived. I was actually looking at the school's website for a master's program, and I saw the ad on the homepage about their new BSN program as the previous offerings were ADN and RN-BSN. I read up on it, looked at the degree requirements, called the phone number, and the department chair answered since she was the only one in the building at the time. It was a new program, and to get used to it they only held 20 seats open although once school started there were 24 of us. I came in somewhere on top of that 20. Because of my degree, previous completion of prereqs, GPA, and possibly because I was an alum I was told that if I wanted in I was in. All my records were already available in the database so she could see my transcripts. As a formality an application was mailed to me for accreditation purposes, since they got a site review, and I filled it out and mailed it back. A couple of weeks later school started, and the rest is history.

I spent 1 1/2 years at a community college finishing pre-req's, then applied to thier ASN program and got in the first time.

I also applied at a 4 year college to thier BSN program and got in the first time. I accepted the BSN offer.

One application. First try. Thank you Jesus!
