How long did it take you to become a CRNA

Published

Hi, I am considering Crna school and was wondering how long it took any of you to fully become a crna including undergrad, critical care experience, and actual crna school. If anyone could give me some info that would be great!:)

Specializes in SICU.

By the time I'm done next year it will have been 8 years. That includes a semester doing a CNA course and a little over 2 years as a nurse. Basically all of my young adult life lol. I'll be 28 when I graduate. Phew!

Thread moved to SRNA forum where Students and CRNAs will respond.

It will vary widely from one CRNA to the next

Undergrad (BSN): 4 years minimum

Critical care/intensive care unit experience: 1-2 years minimum. Keep in mind, your first job may not be in the ICU.

Actual CRNA school: 28-36 months.

Total time after high school to become a CRNA: 7-9 years (minimum)

Personally, it will take me 10-11 years

Between dropping out of college, returning to college, changing majors, etc: 6.5 years of actual school with a 4 year break in there somewhere

By the time I start school I will have 8 months of ER and 4 years of Trauma/Surgical ICU experience.

My program is 28 months, and I'll finish in 2018.

I think that's around 17 years total; I'll be 35 years old when I finish. But obviously, there are quicker paths if you have your act together earlier than I did.

I finished my undergrad in 3.5 years, spent 2.5 years in an ICU, and will be starting a 27 month program at age 23. A little over 8 years after graduating high school it'll take me. I'll be just over 26 when I graduate.
