How long for Pre-Req's (part time)?

Published

I have to start at the very begining of college so I'm not sure what I have to take, I'm an going to take the placement test this week.

I will be going (very)part time at night as I still need to work!

Anyway how long did it take you if you went part time for the pre-reqs?

Depends on the nursing program you wish to pursue. Some schools have 4 prereqs while others have 12. They vary quite a bit! In my case, it's going to be about 18 months on a part-time basis to complete all my prereqs (this is including summer sessions). I recommend starting with A&P or microbiology, as all nursing programs require those for sure. But don't take any of those in the same semester, take them separately because they are demanding especially with labs -- it's like taking 2 classes sometimes.

Find out how many classes you need to take to apply. At my school it is 12 basic pre-reqs but you may also have to take Chemistry, BIO, and Algebra over again depending on your abilities, which would make it 15.

Sounds like 2-3 years, especially if you don't attend the summer/winter sessions. Also be advised, some courses may only be offered specific semesters. For my school, it is about 12 courses - but that hits the pre-reqs for about 20-25 schools (I'm in Ca).

Hope that helps

For my school you're required to have English 101, A&P 1, A&P 2, Microbiology and College Algebra before you can apply. So if you only took 1 class per semester, that would be 5 semesters, so 1.5 years.

It took me 7 quarters (2 years). I took 2 classes at a time. Although my first quarter I took 3 classes. I started in Spring of '08 and finished in Spring of '10.
